Well....we had a great day otherwise:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86044

and ended up at the Friday's near the tree...

Got 4 hours of parking for $10 in the BH photo lot a couple of ave's down 34th (I only needed to drop a bundle in the store to get that rate) and had the fam wait near the Tourneau at the Penn entrance for a surgical pickup of two kids and a double stroller.

BUT....get this...as I am pulling over, the "where are you" phone call comes in and I answer and say that I'm 10 feet away. As I slide in along the curb, I take off my seatbelt to help quickly get the gang in. (I got a visual "OK" from the Guardsman that saw what was going on). Just as I put the car in park, a cop comes up and gives me two tickets, one for no seatbelt and another for being on the cell phone. He didn't want to hear anything about picking up, etc, etc......$90 each.

I am pleading not guilty.....anyone got any other suggestions??

    K-

ps - thx again for the eating suggestions.....timing just found us at the Fridays with no wait and practically our own eating area.

    For parking tickets,
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dof/html/parking/park_tickets_dispute.shtml is a wonderful resource...pay close attention to the PDF on required information for a ticket to be valid

But yours is a traffic ticket so
    http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/dmvfaqs.htm#tickets

    and key addresses/contacts

To the rest of the crew....
we've argued about out-of-state points. I just stumbled on this

No kidding....I think the seatbelt actually came off after I was in "P", and there wasn't more than a nanosecond of being on the phone before I was in park. We'll see what the protest does.....either way, they are 'no point' violations

About 3 weeks ago I was pulled over on 30th between 9 & 10 in my CL55. The officer asked for my creds, then asked if I had just put on my seatbelt, and my answer was no (which was true). They let me go immediately.

I think NYPD is actually starting to enforce this stuff. Someone I work with (who spends too much time on the cellphone) got busted on Monday.

No points in NY for cell phone use? We earn 2 pts for that move here in Jersey.

Kevin... I hope you wished that copper a hearty Happy Holidays.

The state (NY) has given you guys about 2 years to take heed, but I guess most people think = "they don't really mean it, everybody does it."
Well, just like Tookie, the punishment eventually arrives. LOL
By the way NY state is preparing to make that violation a point producer on your driver's license.

It's just frustrating....I wasn't driving without a seatbelt, the car was stopped - ok maybe it still went another foot. I mean, c'mon. And the cell phone, he really could have given me a break....it was literally a second before I was in "P". Did he follow the letter of the law? Perhaps...but what he wrote me up for was not in the spirit of why the laws are there.....the guy was just being a hardass.....and it was funny to him too. My sister in law laid into him so hard I thought he was going to strap her to that stupid scooter thing he was driving in and take her to the station.

For some reason, they seem to be taking the seatbelt and cellphone laws pretty seriously in NYC; as to cellphone use, it is so rampant, everywhere in this area, that I frankly wish it would be enforced more thoroughly. NOt talking about you, skirting a curb, waiting to pick someone up- that sounds like ball busting to me, but instead, the self-absorbed, and selfish drivers who tool down highways, like the Palisades during rush hour, sitting below the limit in the passing lane, having a chat. They force passing on the right, which is also a ticket on the Palisades, as well as unnecessary feelings of hostility.
At least stay right if you are going to drive half-distracted!

Agreed. I say enforce child seatbelt laws 100% and leave most everyone else alone. As for cell phone, that is pure BS IMO. I get more distracted trying to get the earphone piece in or tuning the radio.

I think the whole cellphone thing is a joke...ever see folks reading the paper or a novel while they drive?!...ever see guys checking their emails on a crackberry?!...ever drive with someone who's slammin a BigMac while changing the radio station....the truth is that driving with a cell phone in hand isn't really all that distracting and they've done studies in certain parts of the world to prove that...what is distracting is looking down to dial numbers and for that I believe that car makers should all be required to build Bluetooth into every car and that every phone that operates in a car should be Bluetooth enabled....end of problem!

Cellphone use does carry points in NJ but IIRC it can't be the only violation they pop you for - it's an add-on if they get you for, say, an illegal turn. In NY they can pop you just for using the phone. They got my wife for that last summer. Seat belt is a primary in both states, I believe.

Perhaps you should call your insurance broker before you decide what to do about the tickets.

    Best of luck

The latest one I've seen while sitting in traffic in NY and locally in NJ is video screen on the dash or overhead up front. I can understand them in the rear, but on the dash? Obviously, watching a movie or music video while you're driving is NO distraction AT ALL. ;-) Let's see what to cops do with that.

Cell phone use in cars has become ubiquitous. Enforcement in NJ is a joke. Every day I see dozens of people (mostly women) chatting away on the cell phones not paying any attention whatsoever to what's going on around them. Oh well. My rant for today. The fact that NY enforces it is a good thing. Too bad that it's often for stupid, piddly things that just end up pissing folks off.
