Hello all... I purchased a new gothspeed bypass valve from ricambi in the fall of 2016 and installed it during that winter. Last summer I noticed that it stopped opening, so I removed it and used some GM heat valve lubricant (used for old heat risers on manifolds) to free it up. It worked great after that. Now it is frozen up again. Anyone else have this problem? I spoke with Daniel at ricambi and he instructed me to contact gothspeed to see if they have a solution. I think I will remove it and install my old one that still functions and contact gothspeed to see what to do next. Thanks. john
Seems Daniel no longer carries Goth products. Seems Goth is not standing behind the products. I'm Not knocking him - he makes cool stuff. But, products require support and that support costs $$$$ which is why many garage shops just don't make it.
A couple of FChatters have had this problem. Because of this, I was hesitant to fit one I bought a while ago. I tried to contact Gothspeed months ago by several methods, but received no response. Anyway, I fitted the valve on my recent major (no problems so far, but only 50 miles on the car since then). I think some were repaired by Goth, but unless you get a response from him, I wouldn't build up your hopes. I believe a modification was carried out on later valves, but I think there were still problems. Is the butterfly rubbing the case? What part did you lubricate?
I lubed the shaft on both sides. It didnt seem to be seized at the butterfly. I was just wondering if anyone came up with a solution.
Mine and my friends Gothspeed valves were stuck open permanently after minimal mileage. Both were sent back and were ‘fixed’ mine seems ok since, but my friends one is already rattling. We both swapped out working capristo units to install the more factory looking Gothspeed bypass valve. If I was to do it again I wouldn’t have bothered. If you want the best bypass valve go Capristo.
As you know, Goth is a brilliant dude. The issue seems to be product life cycle testing. Not a justification but I believe Goth does this as a hobby.
Yes the valve works flawlessly until you run it a few miles so it needed more R&D before release. Thats why quality parts cost so much on these relatively low volume cars.
Goth will absolutely stand behind the product. Contact him. He does not check fchat often, so he would have no way of knowing you have a problem unless you do.
Goth made a one off exhaust for me. Looks like a Scuderia exhaust with huge pipes and bypass. Had a problem with the bypass rattling after 500 miles. Goth redid it twice with new designed bypass and fixed the rattle. Over 6000 miles on new design with no problem. Goth is hard to get hold of but does stand behind his work. Being a one man band, long term field testing can be an issue but I new that going into the project. Exhaust gained 20 rwhp when dynoed 10 yrs ago with a unknowingly bad engine Gary Sharpe engine rebuild. Have not dynoed with new rebuild but would imagine even better now. I know Goth has been a great contribution to the community.. but too bad the supposed "robust" valve was still prone to failure and rattles.. which the whole idea was to solve.. ive simply come to except.. my functional and occasional rattle OEM valve..
Goth is a straight up dude and does stand behind his product. Soon as you get ahold of him I have no reason to believe why he won't remedy the problem.
Contact Goth via the Fchat email info. Don't pm him, email him. He will stand by his product, as it is rebuildable.
over time or heat cycles I assume.. something inside the diaphragm and stem loosens.. and causes the rattle.. for me its intermittent sometimes it rattles and sometimes not.. I did research in the past.. and there was a DIY to fix the rattle for oem valve.. by which you loosen the nut at the stem and 3 nuts under the diaphragm and rotate the diaphragm counter clockwise 2 times. and then bolt back. it seemed to improve from that point but not perfect.. given my stock valve works perfect, I just live with the intermittent rattle..
Got a hold of goth, and will be sending him the valve for rework. Nice to see that there is support for these. Will update when valve is reinstalled and miles are put on. (may take a while at my rate of miles)
I believe that I have the first Goth bypass valve on my car and it still seems to be working fine with no issues.
ive had a capristo bypass valve for nearly 10 years and still working fine. i had a problem with the diaphragm failing early in the piece but they sent me 2 spare ones (diaphragm) with an Aluminium cup/heat shield and its been working fine since.
Talked to Goth about this and he will be working with all to correct the problem plus an extra, he said.
