Is this c**p or what. I get rear ended in my daily driver a couple of months ago. I didn't have papers in the car for registration or insurance, though the car is registered and insured. (I don't know where the registration papers went, but they must have been in the car at one point or another since the license sticker made it to the car. The insurance missing is a byproduct of having too many insured vehicles (7) for two people. They just don't seem to all get to the cars every time twice a year.) So the cop writes the tickets I know will go away. So, I go to the courthouse on Halloween and get the two tickets dismissed by producing evidence that the cars actually were registered and insured. "No problems, you're done, have a nice day" says the clerk.

I get home today and my get a letter stating a default judgement has been issued against me and my driver's license suspended.

I'm pissed. I have an excellent driving record (what, maybe 1 ticket in the last 15 years, removed by going to class) and I don't want a suspension listed on my license due to court error.

    I'm pissed this evening.

So why the judgement against you ?

I know it's a pain, and you shouldn't have to, but surely you kept the paperwork saying you had the 2 thrown out, right ?
Get it fixed, then follow up in 2 months, find a cop and have them run your license, and see what shows up.

No paperwork to give me, they entered the info on the computer right at the window, I didn't have to pay anything. I suspect they forgot to remove the case from the court calender. When I didn't show (since I wasn't supposed to) they defaulted against me.

    I'm so pissed I can't sleep.

Welcome to the real world. This is going to cost you a lot of money. That's the whole point: the government keeps making up new rules and playing "gotcha" to see how much of your money they can take from you. Acting in good faith and complying with the spirit of the law is not good enough. If they ever find an i you didn't dot or a t you didn't cross, they stick it to you. And the insurance vultures wil be the next ones feeding on your still-warm flesh.

    You lose.
