Who said the NY GP and Austin GP aren't competing (well I did and I was wrong )? Isn't this a direct response to the Austin GP tickets going on sale this week? At any rate I'm happy to see them progress. What if Bernie's plan B pans out AND his plan A as well? The end of the Hungaroring perhaps? Now that its main promoter went to the eternal racing hall of fame.
I'm happy to see them progress as well One race in the states again ... anywhere ... is fantastic news. Two races is a dream come true ...
Agreed; let's hope the nightmare of no races two to three years from now doesn't come true. Sorry, I'm the eternal pessimist.
And that could happen. The history of Grand Prix Racing in the US has been checkered (pun intended) at best. So many Grand Prix projects have been announced with great fanfare and never saw a race, that I'll believe it when I see it. Still waiting (but not holding my breath) for Argentina, Mexico, Russia, France and Abu Dhabi. Hey, that's my role on here.
...a multi-million dollar project and their website is a three picture rotating banner, one paragraph description and a "contact me" form???
I just came into the Newark Airport for international customs clearance (from Europe) this weekend. If the same port runs that airport that is going to be running this race, they should be racing stage coaches, not F-1 cars.
When does the new Concorde agreement come into effect? I read that it allows for >20 races. I think Bernie will race as many places as he can, provided they keep paying his fee.
Huh? I entered the US via Newark airport just a month ago and it was a piece of cake. Way faster and better than JFK and much quicker than O'Hare. No complaints whatsoever. Currently they're beefing up some of the airports internal infrastructure, by next year it'll be really splendid.
Yep, though would look better in red. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I got the slow lane at passport control (I think they do a great job) so figured my bag would be at baggage when I got there. Twenty minutes later it arrived. Then I had to go through security, take a train to my terminal, cross the terminal on foot only to find out that my gate had changed to the other end of the terminal. I had over two hours for all this and ended up with just enough time to grab a burger and fries to take onboard with me. I have been through a number of port-of-entry airports where you can go through passport control, get your bag, recheck it, and make it back to the secure area without going through security. It should be a standard. The problem is that so many airports have been added on to and added on to without real plans, and eventually can't be made really functional.
I see your point, but that won't affect people going to the NY GP as nobody will connect. You arrive from either the US or your international destination in Newark and you exit the airport. No double security hassle etc. BTW: My connection in Newark was tight as well for the reasons you mention above. Still better than JFK and O'Hare IMHO.
Yes. And the real competition is the NJ GP and Canadian. They have only a couple of years left on their contract and it will be hard to envision Montreal as being a bigger draw than NY. Judging from the huge reduction in seats over the last three years in Montreal, I think that race is toast. I would love to see it differently but the money has to come from somewhere and I don't think the Canadian government (Montreal) can subsidize any more than they do now - especially in the face of a reduction in attendance that will occur if NJ happens.
Existing Concorde expires Dec 31st 2012. New one not in place as yet. I too have read Bernie wants up to 23 races a year but the teams aren't happy - I'm sure that can get figured out with more $ though...... Last I heard they were all pretty much signed up with the exception of Mercedes who apparently want "special treatment" ala Ferrari & the previous two WCC's. They'll get 'er done - CVC *need* a nice long one in place if they're ever gonna float this mess. Cheers, Ian
