Does anyone know if there will be any coverage of the GP masters race on speed or any other american channel? The first race is on Nov13th at Kyalami. Also is Piquet in the field? i remember reading somewhere the Prost, Mansell, Alesi, etc are but i don't remember if Piquet is. Should be interesting...

I don't believe Piquet is in the field, he was hurt pretty bad at Indy that one year and I think has never been the same since then.

I too have been searching to see if this will be televised here in the States, and I hope they do. I would love to see them race against each other again.

That makes two of us. I'm sure there will be some sort of blurb about it on motorsport mundial but i'd like to see the whole race. It's possible that speed will carry it if NASCAR is over. I forget when thier season ends. I'd like to know for sure if it will be carried, if not maybe it's time to start an email campaign. Anyone else down?

My guess would be that, since this sounds like a potentially entertaining series, that NO!!! It won't be covered. Why the hell would you even WANT to watch something like that when there's a perfectly good complement of Nascar-Themed shows on 23 1/2 hours a day.

Damn, their frickin season doesn't end till the week after. Hopefully someone sews up the championship early so we at least get a shot at it. If not it will be hell once again. While i don't hate NASCAR I frankly could give a rat's ass about who wins the title if there is something better to watch. Looks like i'll be emailing SpeedTV. When does thier damned deal with Fox end anyway, I liked it better when they couldn't even say NASCAR on speed.....

Already emailed them. A lot. Save your energy. I'm with you in that I don't mind the SPORT, but don't need the 18 Nascar-related programs that run non-stop, like a news loop on CNN. It's lose-lose. If the Championship ends early, then that only leaves more time to show "Season in Review" clips, etc. I'd rather watch a replay of some 70's Nascar race than Nascar Garage, NBS 24-7, you get the idea...

Maybe they will have them on tape-delay, like a week or two. That way, we will at least get to see the whole race. Anyone knows what format the series will be in, as in will there be qualifying session ('80's, '90's or '00's rules) and will it be standing start or rolling start etc. ?

He was an awesome backmarker too - world champion class - was really tough to lap :)

I hope they show this - it will be really awesome - phenom drivers, simple uncomplicated cars virtually similar for the entire field. What more do you want :)

I wonder if he has that on his CV. Hardest guy to lap in F1 history. Wouldn't it be a ***** if he won a race? It looks like the series should be really great.

Blah, no races in the USA? C'mon, go race Watkins Glen and use the long course! I saw that configuration in the IRL race last weekend, and its an awesome layout. Much better than the "short" course NASCAR uses.

I see only one problem with this concept ... Alain Prost will convincingly blow them all away. The only challengers might be Mansell and Fittipaldi.

    - Alan Jones has been retired from everything for ages ... but can still be fast in v8 Supercars when he wants to be.
    - Patrese had the best cars and under achieved ... so not much is going to change.
    - Arnoux also had good cars and only achieved occasionally ... not much going to change.
    - Johansson, drove for Ferrari for a while so had reasonable equipment but was unable to make an impression ... why would this change now?.
    - DeCesaris, while entertaining probably should been shown the black flag for F1.
    - Lammers, hmmm ... now even cars might help this guy.
    - Danner, as for Lammers but I am not familiar with this driver.
    - Tambay had the equipment and never really set the world on fire ... that surely is not going to change.
    - Stuck, hmmm ... not sure here. I believe he did not get the best go at F1, but I have to question why?

There might be a few drivers that might rise to this challenge differently than they did in the past ... but more than likely the good ones will still be fast UNLESS they have lost their nerve, then I must say they should not be risking their lives and others by getting in the car. You have to be 100% committed to race cars ... and I guess that is why drivers like Berger, etc. have not signed up.

I would like to watch it, so hopefully it comes to Australian TV.

Pete, do you have to SUCK the fun out of EVERYTHING by over analyse them to death !??! :) It is the GP Masters, let's just enjoy watching our childhood heros back behind the wheels and racing against each other again. I am sure that there are still a competitive streak in them, but the fact is, the result will never be view upon as significantly as any major racing series. Only wish that GV and AS were still alive to be in this. A moment of silence please......

Like I said I hope Aussie TV show it ... :)
Agree, but some racing drivers were never going to grow old and slow ...

If we are adding a list of ex drivers I would like to see
    - Niki Lauda
    - Gerhard Berger
    - Stirling Moss (who know he might still whip the young pups :) )
    - Jackie Stewart - though we know he will never race again
    - Bobby Rahal ?? - I am not sure if he raced for more than 1 season though
    - Certainly dont need whiner Damon Hill - actually he may not be old enough to qualify

    Any more?

Sameer, that is a great idea, I would like to see Stewart, Berger, and Rahal as well. Pete you have a point, I think the racing will be Prost and Mansell off in the distance and Emmo not to far behind. Arnoux had his days, Tambay always lacked a bit of Tiger in him.

Actually Mansell hasn't raced anything in some time and looks to be a bit out of shape, has pretty much conceeded that Prost, who is still racing, will more than likely be the class of the field, at least at first. That's not the point though, it's mainly for fun and frankly i'd rather see those guys out there instead of some of the robots running now. I don't really care if Prost wins all the time, it was pretty much the same if everyone was in thier prime. It's a shame that Senna, Gilles Villenueve, and a few others are not around to take part........

P.S. Bobby Rahal, and Danny Sullivan are not eligible because they only did one year in F1. I'd like to see them and maybe both Andrettis in there but because of the rules Mi Andretti is not eligible. Mika Hakkinen, Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi are still too young.

BS He had a stellar champcar career. Bottom line, he got jerked in F1. He'd be faster than several people that are scheduled to run GP masters.

Agree that he did have a fine stint in CART.

But, those "several people" that he'd be faster than are all over the hill.

Back in '93, when he wrote a column for Autoweek he'd always compare himself to his teammate: "We're only .7 seconds off Senna's pace here." "1.2 a lap there." Bottom line is he simply didn't have what it took to be a winner in the highest level of motorsport. Aytron won a few races in the McLaren that year. What did Michael do in what, 12 or so races? Best was a 3rd I recall.

Totally inaccurate, Jr was shanked from the get-go.
Little test time, massive preassure, running two series in two continents.
The effort was doomed before it ever started.

Whose fault was that? ... Michaels!

You ever give F1 your best shot or fnck off!. Michael embarrassed his families name with his lackluster effort ... what did he think F1 was?, a walk in the park or something?

There is no luck in motorsport ... you have to work at getting the equation right. Michael either was not really interested in F1, or well I just don't know.

IMO he has never looked fast in anything and I used to watch a reasonable amount of CART.

Cause they are now old men ... guys I think you are over stating Champ cars or CART.

Michael beat Paul Tracy and other average steerers ... and got a reality check when he tried F1.

If you even have a long career in CART or Champ cars you have NOT got it (except for passed F1 champs who used CART/Champ as a semi-retirement fun series) ... look at JPM and JV, both entered conquered and moved on UP and out of it.

I have to disagree on PT being an average steerer. He is very, very fast, but sometimes very, very stupid. His aggression can get the better of him. He has lost wings, and most likely multiple championships, because of his go for it attitude.
