Say what you want.... F1 snobs can attack me for this statment but here goes: GP2 is a nice little series to watch! Aggressive young drivers, evenly matched cars, world-class circuits, plenty of speed, lots of passing.... It is, in my opinion, very nice racing. Those of you who missed the Imola GP2 Saturday race (shown on SpeedTV), missed some real fun. Do yourself a favor, and make a date to watch the next round of GP2.
I watched as much of the race as I could this morning before the F1 race. It started at 3 AM my time so I didnt make it very far, but what I saw was very good. As I was passing out I hit record on the VCR so I can watch the whole thing tonight. GP2 sure beats the hell out of American racing so I'm going to start to make it an effort to catch all their races as well. Mark
Watch the next race. My boy Ernesto Viso won the feature race. I used to race with him in Skip Barber.......................or more to the point I used to watch him lap me.
I remember you telling us about that. How old was he at the time? He's had some pretty nasty shunts over the years in F3 and other catagories... good to see him having some success.
According to his website he just turned 21. Very nice kid, I had dinner with him, his dad and Bruce McInnes (head Skippy instructor) and a bunch of other racers. This is his third year on GP2/F3000 if you count his half season back in 04. I am not sure he will get a decent F1 test but if he wins a few more races he may get a chance with some back marker team like Midland. He comes from a very wealthy family. He had some rough races last year and I think at one point had been heavily penalized for contact during races but he has speed no doubt about it. At Skip Barber all they ever talk about is JPM this and JPM that but when I was there they were saying he's the next JPM. Looks like last year HE WAS I think the GP2 racing has been excellent and am glad Speed Channel is showing it again.
