VISO VEN BCN Competicion 1:35.257 on lap 35 In a thrilling race of tactics and intense on-track battles, Heikki Kovalainen came through to take victory in the first ever GP2 series race. He was followed home by Jose Maria Lopez (DAMS) and Scott Speed (iSport International.) The race had been dominated early-on by the Super Nova International of Giorgio Pantano, but when the pit stops panned out, it was his team-mate Adam Carroll who led the race. His lead was short-lived however, as the charging Kovalainen took over when the Northern Irishman was called into the pits with an agonising 2 laps to go. So, Kovalainen took the win from Lopez (6.8 seconds) Speed (17.7 secs) Bruni (18.4 secs) Carroll (21.5 secs) Jani (43 secs) Premat (46.9 secs) and Rosberg (48.6 secs,) with Ernesto Viso taking two points for fastest lap. With the reverse grid for tomorrow's race, eighth place finisher Nico Rosberg will start from the head of the field in an all-ART Grand Prix front row. ... full race report to follow. Great result for Speed. Tommorrow there is another race.
That is a great result for Speed considering he has never raced these types of cars, where as Kovenlavin raced the Telefonica World Series( Champion) which are very similar in preformance to the GP2 cars.
Kind of have to.... GO FINLAND, this year seems to be picking up again, Kovalainen and nico rosberg (half finnish) in GP2, Räikkönen finally again getting the speed up in F1. And then ofcourse Grönholm in WRC. And Kallio won last weekends 125cc GP, whcih maybe isn't that a big deal, but since it was the first time in 30 years a finn does that it is ! This from a country that has 6 months of the year snow and a 5 miilion population, I am very proud of my homecountry at the moment ! Today is going to be an exciting day !
And it was for Kimi until that McLaren killed his race yet again. Ferrari want Räikkönen and he must be getting tired of DNF's, he'll be wearing Red before he's done. Anyways checkout this link for a perspective on the current state of GP2 http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns14673.html Kenny K
