Hi all, I have just picked up my first F430 and I am worried about a couple of things. 1. It is 10 years old but the owner has only drove it 10,563 miles. About 1000 mikes a year. I am worried that because the previous owner hardly drove the machine, that the engine has actually weakened. Is this possible? 2. Reading the posts on exhaust manifolds breaking with the 430 as well, would it really make sense to change them out, just to change them out? The muffler installed is a Kreissieg exhaust Ferrari F430 Coupe / Spider Version.2 They make a full system and am tempted to replace. Ferrari F430 Any advice would be appreciated. I will be keeping this car and driving it all the time so I am not worried about resale value ect. I have attached a picture of the car. Kindest regards, Agent7 Image Unavailable, Please Login
The manifolds are a big deal! If you are going to drive the car all the time I would say swap out the manifolds with something better aftermarket. I would say Capristo.
I think you worry too much. The engine isn't "weakened" because the mileage is low. As long as the car was maintained well it is fine. Manifolds can be a problem but why replace them if they might be okay? I wouldn't spend money that you may not need to spend.
The only way an engine really weakens is from repetitive or abusive wear of the cylinder rings, other air leaks, or buildup/restriction on components. Having an engine sit won't really influence any of those items as long as the fluids were swapped before / after periods of non-use. If really concerned, which you shouldn't be, you can get cylinder compression tests done which check for air leakage. Swap your fluids. You should be good. Damage is a different item and could have occurred and things do rust/wear out. I recently found some exhaust leaks this weekend when modifying my OEM pipes to fit supertraps. 20 seconds of welding and good as new, but that kind of damage can occur just over time and storage conditions.
It seems you are in Japan. Would cars manufactured for the Japanese market have manifolds with pre-cats?
No worries at all. Enjoy the car! Check on the gen of the exhaust headers and % clutch wear and records for status of F1 pump replacement if at all. Making sure you have good service history and documentation are vital, also a PPI to make sure the car checks out, aside from that a carfax and/or autocheck should be something to do for starters
The only problem I see is how the 1000 miles a year were accumulated. If he say drove it 10 x 100 mile trips then that would probably be okay but a lot of 10 mile trips would be really bad for the engine as it wouldn't have time to fully heat up and burn off any moisture. I guess you will never know but personally I wouldn't buy a garage queen. Alan
Thank you guys. I just have a heavy foot and would also like to take it on the track. Just wanted to hear your thoughts. I feel better already.

Congrats and welcome. 10k miles for a 10 year old 430 is not out of the norm by any means. Check the service records (go to an authorized Ferrari dealer and ask them to pull the history) and see if your manifolds have been changed. If they have been, you most likely have the second generation manifolds and you should be good to go. If they haven't been changed then they will need to be eventually. Listen for a loud ticking sound and look for white dust all over your engine bay. These are tell-tale signs. Also have your exhaust brackets looked at as they frequently crack and motor mounts looked at as well as they fail as well pretty early. Other than that, get out there and put on as many miles and smiles as you can!
Great car, don't worry, enjoy it and drive a lot. I put 13k miles on mine 1st year I owned it. BUT...I did not want to take a chance on a faulty header getting sucked up into the engine. I replaced the stock Ferrari units with fabspeed the second day after purchase. No problems and the car is awesome, uses lots of tires and brake pads. Could b my driving?!?! Congratulations...you won't regret your purchase.
I had an '05 F430 and it was trouble free the whole time I owned her. I doubt, you'll have any issues. These cars are pretty darn bullet proof. As for the headers, have your F-car dealer check them out. Chances are they've already been changed out for the more robust factory upgraded headers. Enjoy the car!!! Don't worry.....
Congratulations on your car Low miles aren't an issue, but as others have said you really should make sure you have all new fluids and if you're concerned about exhaust manifolds, don't just swap them out, have an authorized shop check to see if they're in need of replacement. A PPI from an good shop can tell you what condition your car is in... but with only 10K miles, I'm guessing it's in pretty good shape. Enjoy your new car!
They are apparently made in Taiwan. Apparently, Agency Power headers are identical. I had the AP headers installed on mine a few weeks ago.
I think this comment typifies most of the comments on Fchat. There is WAY too much fussing and not enough driving.
Don't swap anything out. Leave it stock and drive the hell out of it. Have fun! Great looking example. Congrats.
Here are some pictures of the car... Take ownership tomorrow. Cant wait.
