Here are the results if you don't know.
Some of the cars on a cool day in Georgia. The crowd was very decent. Don't know if it was 25,000 like at COTA. Tons of great drivers.

But, I think, when it was all said and done, my sister liked talking with Hurley Haywood, we had watched him back in 1973, so it was fun to catch up.

I'm glad to see Ferrari of Atlanta get in the game. Is this recent?

They just did a one-time gig? Is this car a gypsy that runs under a different flag at each race?

I had never been to a Grand-Am race, since like a lot of other people, I always had had a pro-ALMS, anti-Grand-Am mentality. I suppose that the shear ugliness of the first-generation Daytona Prototypes was also part of the reason. And of course you never would have seen these cars at Road Atlanta before last year's merger.

But, it's a new day, the USCR is coming, and it's time to bury old sentiments. And I must admit that the newer DP's are much better looking than their predecessors. I particularly like the road-going Corvette cues found in the current Corvette DP cars. (I wish the current Riley-BMWs still had the BMW-style split intake up front, though.)

Actually, the first batch of photos I'm posting is of the supporting Continental Tire Challenge race, a very entertaining affair spoiled by far too many yellow flags. The variety of cars was incredible, and as the owner of a 2012 Honda Civic coupe, it was neat to see cars like mine on the track! I apologize for the lack of sharpness in these shots, as I discovered later that I had my camera on the wrong autofocus setting. These are all at turn 10.

The Vettes do sound cool don't they? Kinda like a T-Rex among the high pitched bumble bees, huh?

I was there as well - considering the great weather the turnout was terrible. The racing was close - almost too close lots of yellows, but in the end it was a good weekend.

I didn't stay around for the end of the Continental Tire race (which I believe ended under yellow) since I wanted to get an early place in line for the autograph session to be held in the nearby tent. Needless to say, the only photo that I took there was not of one of the drivers!

I then headed down to the paddock and was able to cruise through while many people were still getting autographs. I was surprised that many of the teams were operating out in the open; at the Petit Le Mans, they are usually operating under awnings even on nice days. Some of the cars had already been pushed out to the hot pit lane.

They pushed the cars onto the (hot) pit lane and then opened the pits for a "FanWalk". Fortunately it was less crowded than the dense mob at the equivalent Petit Le Mans walk, and I was actually able to get photos of whole cars! A local high school marching band kept the festive mood going. I saw Max Papis and told him that I expected a Ferrari 1-2-3 in class; he admitted that it would be difficult, but would try to get the "1".
