No one else should care but I must relate my own experience. 12 year old riding his bike about 6 miles to the "Beverly Theatre" southside of Chicago. Myself and 2 buddies. Later years my one buddy would sit in his GT 40 and watch the film. Myself and other buddies would forgo going out for a booze cruise and sit in my living room to watch it on free TV. I own the LP album and all variations of recordings. Long before "Capt. Ron" this flick made a lifelong impression on that 12 year old.

If you go to the IMDb website and look up "Grand Prix", I put most of the quotes from the film that appear there, nearly 25 years ago! Not too many more have been added since.

I love Grand Prix and Le Mans of course and have seen them countless times but you are all forgetting another which has a lot going for it.

The racers, 1955, with Kirk Douglas, Bella Darvi, Cesar Romero and others, it has a lot of charm and the racing scenes are good, ultimately fiction will never get racing right so as an evocation this one is just as good.

AND YET, it remains the racing movie that portrays what racing is like better than any other film on racing.
