Guess you might say I "jumped the gun" this morning setting my alarm an hour earlier than necessary to get up to watch qualifying! With all the occurrances of last month (again thanks to everyone for condolences), we cancelled our jaunt to this race, otherwise we'd be sitting on the hill watching this live enjoying wine, cheese and a French baguette . . . but . . . a Kelloggs s'mores bar, diet Pepsi, live timing and tv must suffice.

Final practice definitely saw the times really tumble from the previous sessions.
    Of significance include:
    FA 1;13.823
    MS 1:14.031
    GF 1:14.056
    DC 1:14.056
    NR 1:14.785
    JPM 1:14.785
    MW 1:14.804
    FM 1:14.842
    JB 1:15.020
    KR 1:15.124
    RB 1:15.283
    CK 1:15.476
    NH 1:15.591

I was especially glad to see Nico up there in 5th only .800 behind Alonso. As in the past with this race, if you are up front you definitely have the upper hand (barring any collisions which will more than likely occur). Therefore, the obvious key to winning this one is to be on pole - "he who has the least fuel wins" ?!? is this perhaps Renault's strategy again this week? time will tell.

Sector times on the computer look like a very busy slot machine. Drivers all must get out and get times in - no waiting around here. 8 minutes remain and MS is only one no yet out on track.

MASSA OFF SESSION SUSPENDED!!! but . . . timing didn't stop - clock still ticking.

I didn't expect the back end to go fritzy at Casino Square on Massa's car in qualifying!

No time for MS yet - this is not good with 7 minutes remaining in KO Session #1.

He is safe for now, 40sec remaining and 13th. Webber in top3 for 1st session.

Not looking good for Ferrari. Hopefully Michael is running the softer tires as FM was all over the place.

    This will be interesting...

    Out are:

Massa, Montagny, Sato, Speed, Monteiro and Albers

Hope MS doesn't get knocked out in second session - perhaps he's holding it all for the final go?

    Good morning -

You certainly have that right! Interesting is a perfect adjective to describe this qualifying.

Why can't Massa bring out a spare car to continue qualifying? Or is it saved for MS?

New rules for 2006. If you crash in any of the 3 sessions, you cannot continue.

Just when we were ready to write McLaren off, both of those cars have two of the fastest times this weekend. MS not looking too good out there.

Bridgestone apparently over-estimated the track worthiness of their super-soft tires. This is looking like Michelin-fest 2006.

    Good morning Carol.

I share your fears on this one...I know Ferrari was strong in this morning's practice, but they look a lot shakier than I was expecting this weekend. Renault looks like Renault, but we're seeing McLaren re-enter as a possible spoiler this weekend. Interesting that Honda seems off the pace as well.

Did they switch to Bridgestone this year?

Any bets on polesitter?? If MS doesn't get it then I'd like to see Kimi in that position. Although . . . it seems to be anyone's game right now. The thing to watch is who will be first out in last session.

    7 minutes to go.

As I type this MS is fastest 1st sector and now 4th. In the 1'13's which I think is safe for a Top10 finish for 2nd session.

    Thank you.

Next question for the Monaco track experts, would it be possible for Massa to run the entire race on one stop, tire wear being the main concern?

Do the rules require any stops, or could a car run the entire Monaco GP with no stops?

Feel alot better about Ferrari now. MS was slowed by traffic (BMW) in that 2nd sector and still made up .09 secs in the third.

It's amazing that MS went from struggling to make 1:16 to 1:14 this morning, now he's at 1:13.7

As I said before, it'll be interesting.

The F1 cars are designed from the start with pitstops in mind so the fuel cell isnt large enough to cover the whole race, all races in the year must cover min 305km except Monaco which is ~260km long. I do believe each 2l covers 1km therefore a fuel cell of 500+lt would be needed to last a race without a pitstop.

MS gets out first but look at Alonso's time. Considering they start with race fuel - looks like Renault is going to be on a light load just to get up front?

16:69 and MS is up at P1 !!! oop's JPM just knocked him to P2

Well Rubens has pulled his finger out the past few races, Button atleast has the advantage of deciding on the right fuel strategy.

Looking at 3rd session, well this is where some luck plays apart and MS I rekon still has a great chance for pole :)

surely many people would gamble on light fuel.. chances of a safety car early in the race are high

The first 10 minutes of this final session are BS? Just cruising around waiting to burn off fuel and then pit for tyres....
