Good evening Shawn - here's a link to the hotel you question:

If you check their availability, you will find they are showing rooms running 595 EUR per night or 495 EUR per night depending on the date. We have rooms in Nice for '06 at a much lower nightly rate and have had airline tickets for sometime. Good luck.

Nice is a nice place. I was in Nice a day or 2 after the Gran Prix this year. Had I known I was going to Nice during that time I would have loved to go to the race. Nice is like 15min if that by train to Monaco.

I stayed at that hotel last Wednesday nite. The mini bar is set up to charge you if the weight changes. If you pick up a beer then decide not to drink it , you get charged. How does that work? The rooms are great but the shower is set up weird. I kept getting water all over the floor. The tub/shower doesn't have a full enclosure. The water is hard too. The hotel is beautiful and I heard that during the race weekend that all the F cars will park right outside the hotel and casino which are right there. I saw just a few cars when I was there last week. I think I paid 498 Euros for a room. The boat show was there and that may be the reason. All superyachts and no small stuff. Boats were in the millions.

Yes, the Hotel de Paris does overlook Casino Square (if you get a room on the proper side), BUT: that's far from the best place from which to watch the race, rooms are very hard to book for race week, and the price is dramatically increased over the rates quoted above. Staying in Nice is much less expensive than staying in Monaco, but you'll probably want to take the train back and forth (driving/parking is tough, espcially on Sunday), and that limits your flexibility if you plan to stay late for dinner, etc. afterwards. Finding a reasonably-priced room in MC is almost impossible, as they're booked by the same people (me included) year-to-year, but doing that and paying for a good grandstand ticket (I prefer K) is a better bet in my opinion.

Most of the best rooms are booked a year in advance. The best way to go is to buy a package from one of the travel companies that specialize in race weekends. GrandPrix Tours of one that I have used. Well worth the cost.
