Getting anxious, they are arriving at the circuit near Istanbul, a little more than 4.5 days to race time. This course does not rely on downforce, Ferrari already announced they will not use the slotted nose again until Monaco, so there could be some interesting points finishes by cars/drivers that have not finished better than 5th so far.

    My points predictions, er, guesses:

    1) Kimi R (he's on a roll)
    2) Felipe M (could win, did last year, but when Kimi is up, he is up)
    3) Fernando A (don't think Spain was a fluke)
    4) Robert K (if he finishes a race, will always finish in the top 5 all season)
    5) Jarno T (rumor is they have made major improvements)
    6) Lewis H (McLaren seems to be back peddaling)
    7) Jensen B (Ross says they will show big improvements, gotta believe Ross)
    8) Mark W (car is getting consistent)

Positions 3-7 could be rearranged in numerous ways as I think these chassis will be very close at this track.

For the record, the 2007 race results were:

    1) Felipe
    2) Kimi
    3) Fernando
    4) Nick H.
    5) Lewis
    6) Heikki
    7) Nico
    8) Robert K.

There are this certain few who keep dreaming that Alonso will get a podium finish. He will be lucky to get one, if any the entire season IMO. And it's not Alonso's fault.

    1) Massa
    2) Kimi
    3) Kubica
    4) Hamilton
    5) Webber
    6) Alonso
    7) Heidfeld
    8) Heikki

    1) Kimi R (he's better than Massa)
    2) Felipe M (could win, did last year, it's one of he circuits that suits his style)
    3) Lewis H (McLaren will bounce back)
    4) Robert K (if he finishes a race, will always finish in the top 5 all season)
    5) HK (He's in a McLaren and he's fast)
    6) Nick H (He's been down on his luck, it'll change)
    7) Jarno T (Large aero update package will be a bit better than Renaults from two weeks ago)
    8) Fernando A (I really have no idea where to put him)
    8) Mark W (the middle group is to close to call)

Positions 3-7 could be rearranged in numerous ways as I think these chassis will be very close at this track. Agreed

Honestly I think it's a toss up between Kimi and Felipe for the first two spots in both quali and the race. Felipe has been very strong at the circuit but I think Kimi has finally hit his stride with the team and will be hard to beat for the rest of his time at Ferrari, have to wait and see what kind of times they can put down in the practice sessions.

    3-Lewis or Kubica
    4-Heikki
    5-Alonso
    6-Sato (Canada 07' nostalgia)
    7-everyone else

    Hmm...

    1. Raikkonen
    2. Massa
    3. Hamilton
    4. Kubica
    5. Kovalainen
    6. Alonso
    7. Heidfeld
    8. Trulli

I really don't know. Other than the top 2, which I think is a given, I really don't know what the rest of the field is going to look like. It's so incredibly competitive. I think Renault will show good form based on Barcelona, but I still think a podium is a little out of their reach, but who knows. Heidfeld doesn't seem to be able to drive the F108 like Kubica can, which leaves his spot open to Alonso/Kovalainen possibly. Kovalainen is going to want to get a good result to put last GP's crash behind him. I think the most exciting race will be between McLaren/BMW.

I am not a big Alonso fan, the regulars here know that, but after watching him drive a crap car like a true champion in (almost)Schumacher fashion, and seeing that Renault really has made some forward movement, he will podium, its inevitable. He wasn't running on fumes in Spain, he pitted only two laps ahead of the Ferrari.

Flavio is not paying Fred big bucks to walk away next year with development knowledge. I am even going to suggest that Flavio is one of the smartest if not THE smartest guys on the pit wall. There's something cooking here.

Alonso can only go forward. And despite what the mass technical knowledge that is Ferrari chat thinks, the Renault IS getting better/faster.

+1, preferably with the McLarens at the back too. Maybe Kubica in 3rd also.

I'm still not convinced that Renault has made any big strides. Barcelona had 2 safety car periods that kept him towards the front, so it was hard to get a gauge on it (or his fuel load). Once the safety car issue was over, Alonso ended up where he always has, so...

    1) Felipe Massa - There is no way in hell he'll let Raikkonen beat him on one of the few tracks he is good at.
    2) Fernando Alonso - A few days ago Pat Symonds said Renault are within 1% of Ferrari. That is ****ing close, he wouldn't say it if he didn't believe it.
    3) Lewis Hamilton - He was really good here last year, Ron Dennis said he was going to win the race if it wasn't for his tyre explosion.
    4) Pedro/Heikki - Mclaren have to bounce back by now.
    5) Mark Webber - He's a damn good qualifyier and this track suits him.
    7) Jarno Trulli - That Toyota is getting better, he deserved 6th place last race, but Toyota did something really stupid. They saw a Glock's front wing get ripped off in a colision and mistook it for Trulli's front wing. They then called Trulli into the pits and said "OOOOOOPS!".
    6) Nelson Piquet - Just because of what Pat said.
    8) Ruebens Barrichello - Its his record breaking race, cmon Ruebens score a damn point.

Got to say I'm becoming a Fernando fan...that kid can drive. My, how the Mclarens have fallen. Lewis has gone from the second coming to middle of the pack in one year. But Kimi will dominate as long as he is in the Scuderia...and I think the Massa haters have nothing left to talk about.

    What a year in GP!

Button will score a point before Rubens gets a chance unless the car breaks. So you figure Kimi will crash out on this one?

I wouldn't call Alonso's performance a fluke, I would call it a calculated risk to do well in his home turf. My guess is he had the engine set at 19k and it blew. He won't podium till Valencia.

It's not that some of us don't think Renault is getting better it's their development relative to their competitors that we try to factor in. At this point in the season the developmental cycle speeds up and all the teams begin to get better. The question that is then asked is "Who is making better strides?" While Renault has improved the other teams are bringing updates to their cars this race and Renault isn't. When the teams are this close it all turns into a bit of a leap frog for which car is faster.

1% in F1 is a pretty large quantity. The average Turkish Grand Prix lap takes a little over 90 seconds, 1 percent of 90 is .9 seconds A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF TIME.
