A topic that has been on here many times, but I would still be interested in getting some advice.

The car is a 90th Edition Grandsport Spyder and I live in Las Vegas. I made the mistake of taking it to a local carwash, where the attendant proceeded to driver the car into the side rails scratching the front and back wheels on one side. It looks like they aren’t that deep in that they scored / removed some of the clear coat not gone into the metal.

The carwash have admitted responsibly (hard to deny when I was standing there), now it’s a question of how to put it right. I visited a couple of local “wheel specialists” who offered to powder coat them and one who offered to strip polish and re lacquer, for around $180 a wheel, they advise that new colors wont match so all wheels need doing.

Local main dealer, want around $1500 and will take around 2 weeks again for all 4 wheels

I’m concerned about these little wheel companies jacking the car up, removing the wheels and tires, one jack in the wrong place is a horrible thought..

New replacements are running around $1700 a piece, a little much to expect the carwash to pay for.

Any thought or advice appreciated, anyone else had problems with ball polished wheels

    Thanks

    Dov

not a chance, they are responsible for correcting the problem, are you to take the loss of value due to their negligence? they have insurance for this reason.

That depends on how damaged they are and whether or not you believe they can be fixed rather than need replacing.

If you are going to wash high end cars, you better be prepared to pay up when you damage one. Thats the reallity of their business.

This is your safest bet as they will ensure the end result. All they'll do is take it to the little wheel guy anyway but their on the hook to make sure everything's perfect.

    Ouch.

Yes, I would have the dealer do it. With respect to the $3400 being too much for the carwash, I'm sure they have insurance.

    And...

I won't even ask why you took a brand new Maserati to a semi-automatic car wash where they wash Jeeps and Explorers all day. I guess the next time someone posts an "Is it OK to take my Ferrari through the carwash?" question we have yet another cautionary tale.
