When Maserati announced they would race the Gransport Light in the European GT3 championship against the likes of Porsche 911 GT3, F430 Challenge, Lambo Gallardo GT3, Corvette Z06, Viper, Aston DBR9 and Ascari KZ1, I honestly thought they were going to be in for an embarassing experience.

But not quite! After 3 races the Maserati Gransport Light is proving its worth, running consistently at high levels, basically on a par with the Gallardo, 911GT3 and DBR9. Currently only the F430 and the "oversized" Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper and Ascari KZ1 have been way too fast.

Who would have said that the "old" Gransport would have performed so well on the track? Ok it's not a contender for overall victory, but it's defending itself decently and giving the others a run for their money. In the last race a Gransport came in the top 10, leaving as many as 20 other supercars behind!

Now, if only we could get a Gransport Light for the road...
