I am debating btw a 996 turbo and the gransport and was wondering what engine and cosmetic mods are available for the gransport? If I were to get one I would change the wheels and would like to see it lowered another .5" or more in the rear.... I was also wondering if it would be worth putting an exhaust such as Tubi on a GS or if the exhaust note was already aggressive enough? I have yet to go and test drive one, but am already considering some possible mods...
I appreciate any and all advice!

I've lowered my Maser. coupe by 2" and it looks awesome. The exhaust on the stock G.S. is made by Tubi but is not as aggressive as the mid. level Tubi exhaust most people buy. Another option is to do what I did, change the mid pipe leading from the cats. to the exhaust to straight pipes ie. remove the resonator. This will give you about a 20lb weight saving (atleast the case for the coupe) and a much more aggressive sound all for less than $400.
Otherwise not much out there in terms of mods other than the Euroteck chip with should add about 50hp. I think there is another company that does the same thing.
Love my Maser....it eats the Porsche in looks, sound and exclusitivity.

What did you use to lower your car and would it work with the skyhook in the GS? The most important thing to me in the exhaust is to have an aggressive and exotic sound. I definitely like the idea of changing out the midpipe and wonder if it would be too much to that and change to the more aggressive tubi muffler? Also, about how much is the chip?? I dont even have the car yet and am getting excited!

The chip is $2500 and can be found on ebay or do a google search for eurotek.
I have the skyhook and it makes lowering very easy because of the moveable ring inside the coilover. Some have lowered their cars in their own garage.
I too was shopping for a 996 TT but the bland interior and the ho-hum exhaust note just didn't do it for me.

Sorry for my newbie questions...but I do not need to buy any additional springs or new coilovers for a 2" drop?? Can I just have the dealership do it when I purchase the car?

You can see all of the Gransport factory options, and "build" your ideal car with them, at:

    http://www.maserati.com/

Beyond that I would strongly recommend not modifying the car at all, at least during its 4yr/50k factory warranty period. You don't want to risk voiding the warranty on a car whose parts/service are that expensive!

Where the exhaust note is concerned, the OEM exhaust on a Gransport is already glorious, and of course you can button-switch it to muted or loud mode. :)

I appreciate the info...that is good news indeed about lowering the car without any additional parts. As far as other modifications, I am only considering either putting the more aggressive tubi muffler or changing the midpipes, as well as putting on different wheels. My only question deals with the chip...is this detectable by the dealer for warranty purposes or can it be reflashed back to stock without leaving a record of any changes?
I am glad that there are some people who have done at least some minor mods to their Gransports!

According to the company the chip is not detectable.

I'd listen to the GS's exhaust first. It has TUBI, stock. (Sort of...). MUCH more agressive than the coupe. If you want loud, buy testpipes. :)

I'm surprised you don't like the wheels. I think the 19in Trofeo wheels are AWESOME.

If you do lower it, esp. if you do it in your garage, make sure you bring it to someone to have the car corner balanced! It's bad enough from the factory, if you're just arbitrarily dropping the car by visual aid, you may be seriously upsetting the handling. Any good local race shop should have scales to do this.

I like the wheels, but would like to purchase some iforged or hres with a polished lip in a similar style.... I will definitely wait to hear the stock exhaust on the GS before any decisions, but I am just planning ahead. I also saw that someone on the forum did get the chip but didnt write that much of a review other than "its worth it"... So the best way to get hp out of this engine without (hopefully) blowing any warranty would be using what specific parts? I am very familiar with my current m3 aftermarket, but maserati is a whole new game.
Thanks again for the replies and keep any tips coming!

PS are these test pipes the same as the straight pipes referred to in an earlier post?

The car looks great dropped! How do you like your straight pipes? I want an aggressive italian sound but do not want to sound like I have a bad muffler... Will I still be able to change the volume of the exhaust with the sport button if I have these pipes? Thanks again..

Also what other mods need to be done to get the claimed 50hp with the eurotek?

    TheBK,

The car is not detectable chipped by dealers from what I understand. I just became a Eurotek dealer so as soon as I start learning more about their products and testing them, I will gladly recommend you and help you.

HRE wheels I can get them at a great deal also. iForged makes some good wheels also but I've never seen them on a Maserati. If you let me know what style you're interestedin I can provide you with some pictures.

The 50hp claimed with eurotek was done with an exhaust and BMC air filters.

I'm not sure if I missed any of your questions but if you want to please give me a call at 405-410-8149 at your convenience and we can talk this over much quicker. I'm sure you have many questions and I can get them answered in just minutes over the phone.

I attached a picture of my Spyder lowered. I really do urge you to lower your car, these cars look really ugly when they're not lowered, the wheel gap is massive.

    Regards,
    Kevin

I appreciate the info and will definitely contact you when I get the car, which still wont be for at least a month or so. Please keep me posted on your impressions of the software in the meantime
As far as wheels I want something similar to the stock style... I have hres on my m3 right now and might go with them again, but also like the fact that iforged can put up to a 5" lip and is cheaper. Either way I would like to see some more pics of masers with aftermarket wheels

You can contact me before you get the car, I don't care whether you buy parts from me or not that's completely up to you. I just don't mind helping fellow Maserati owners out with their questions or anything I can assist with.

I'm about to head out right now to take care of some things but when I get back tonight if I find the time I'll send you some pictures of HRE's on Maserati's to give you an idea of how the different styles will look on your car. And I'll do some more research on the software upgrades.

    Regards,
    Kevin

I truly appreciate it! You have already been very helpful and appreciate you taking the time to help out a fellow enthusiast. I would def be interested about the software for the gransport and how it would work with that exhaust vs upgrading the muffler and/ or the midpipes... I havent seen anyone do anything specifically to a gransport. PS Are upgrading the airfilters an expensive venture?

BMC air filters are about $100. Pretty reasonable.
Kevin, do you sell any of them? I tried buying one from the BMC web site but putting my credit card info. and approval seemed liked a daunting task.

I do actually, give me a call one Monday I think I might have some laying around. I usually have random BMC filters.

Regardless of what others say an exhaust won't yield big horsepower gains in the Maserati. I'd be suprised to see more than 10. As stardoc stated above no upgrading the air filters are not an expensive venture at all. By the way I forgot to email HRE about the wheel pics. I'll send them an email right now and as soon as I get the pictures I'll post them up in this thread.

    Regards,
    Kevin

If you buy a Maser definately call Eurotek and speak to Philip, his ECU tuning is awsome, it's a different animal.

Still waiting on the email, will post as soon as I receive pictures. I'd say hopefully by the end of the day, if not I'll call. They have to take care of orders and whatnot first before getting to picture requests.

They have only sold a couple of sets to Gransport guys so he has not received any pictures back.

Here are some pictures of Coupe/Spyders with HRE wheels however. Hopefully this gives you an idea. I have more if you want.
