Bill Noon...thanks for your excellent photo...the six Webers with chrome velocity stacks...the brilliant red Ferrari script cam covers...the twin distributors...mechanical art without a doubt. All that is missing is the incredible sound of that engine revving to redline. After viewing these and other photos today, I had to play my copy of Victory by Design to hear Alain DeCadenet run the 250 TRs of Sir Anthony Bamford and P. Paul Pappalardo up through their gearboxes, then day dream of running a 250 TR south from Big Sur along the Pacific Coast Highway.
Speaking of the ex-Pappalardo TR, here it is during a valve adjustment in 1993. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bertocchi, thanks for posting that photo. Very unusual to see a photo with the cam covers removed. You wouldn't have a closer view of the mechanism, would you? You state it is the ex-Pappalardo TR, who is the lucky owner now?
I agree, although they look too brown in the first photo...all the photos posted so far look like they have been "photoshopped"
Below is 250TR59 s/n 0766TR. Photo taken by myself at Pebble Beach 2004. Completely "un-photoshopped". -Jarrett Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks to everyone who has posted photos in this thread, and especially to Bertocchi for taking the time to find and post that close up of the valve mechanism. That's the best look I've had yet of what is under the covers...fantastic...thanks again.
Gentleman of knowledge: We have photos of three TRs so far on this thread, one of which is left hand drive, the other two are right hand drive. I had the impression that all sports racing Ferraris were right hand drive. Is the left hand drive vehicle a reproduction a or conversion from another model, or is my assumption incorrect? Confused! Ed
Bill Noon's photo is of a customer ordered pontoon fendered 250TR from 1958. This was raced in the USA. All factory team cars were RHD. -Jarrett
The engine (and car) I posted are from an early 57 model and one with many small different body features from the other 17 client cars. It is without exceptiong the most original and correct of the 17 race examples (one was sold new as a road car so I don't count that one.) Cheers, Bill
I believe that you have forgotten about the car Ralph Lauren owns? Purchased by a Naval Architect new and never raced or damaged, then to Pappalardo who displayed it only, and now with Lauren.
Here are a few pix showing Lauren's LHD 0734 TR. Original owner Frederick Gibbs. COPYRIGHT MARCEL MASSINI Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nope... did not forget anything. 18 cusomer cars built. 17 were race cars 0734/TR was the sole example ordered and sold as a road car. Cheers, Bill
