    Wow that's great to hear.

I hate to say this but racing a car like that after only 2 days behind the wheel.... kinda stupid.

    Not enough runway to stop?

It's not like he was trying to land a 747! :D

Thankfully he is alright and will live to fight another day...but this was not the runway's fault :)

This was a TT 458 from UGR. The thing made about 700 hp thereby enabling higher top end acceleration and speeds which would have been accessible on the runway. Braking distances increase as the square of the speed, so that given Car and Driver's measurement of 146 ft to stop from 70 mph, a 458 doing 210 mph would need a quarter of a mile to stop. Someone not used to stopping from that speed would be likely to end up in the trees. I personally experienced the effect a couple of years ago when I took a Lamborghini to 207 mph at Mojave Spaceport (with tailwind) on their 14,000 ft runway. I started braking before I could see the end of the runway; good thing too.

Good luck with that. Insurance typically doesn't cover "racing" of which this certainly is. He's probably on his own.

What is the safest way to quickly slow down from 200mph+ speeds?

I'm guessing its more than just slam the brakes.

How long before its on eBay with a clean title no stories?

Glad to hear the driver walked away, must be a well engineered and built car, good to know. Expensive lesson though.

There should have been a sand trap to slow cars down quickly like they have in F1, it would help if any of those cars would get brake fade as well as a final safety measure. The driver is lucky he didn't hit any trees head on as he made his way off the runway.

Happy to see he is ok!

Carefully at first, so as not to change the set of the body and create suddenly different aerodynamic forces.

I have driven in excess of 200mph at Daytona, and many times in excess of 180 other places and the first rule is do nothing fast. You drive slowly to go fast, learning how to slow down everything around you. A major source of accidents is over correcting (steering, braking, etc.) Keep focused on what is ahead of you and allow your peripheral vision to catch all else. Do not look at people or objects (can't look at two things at the same time). The laws of physics apply to all of us. Just two weekends ago, a skilled driver who had just modified his aero package and increased hp on his car, wanted to "show me" how he could easily get by me during the second lap of practice, and crashed. He forgot, for all intents and purposes, he too , was driving a "new" car. Best

No video that I'm aware of as there were only a few people present while the run was done. I was contacted 30 minutes after it occurred and only pics were sent to me....

He's to take delivery of Aventador this week and have it TT'd as well. The thing is that this runway is a municipal runway...meaning much shorter than a regular one used for heavy aircraft. He was going at least 35-40% faster than any aircraft that use this runway for landing or takeoff.

He would have needed a parachute, longer braking time, more deceleration length per feet on the runway or all three.....

We can rediscuss endlessly BUT its truly simple, don't hammer a Ferrari in the wet without full traction control, especially on Pirelli's = crash, repeat 100 times ......

Sad to see this. Clearly the driver lacked experience stopping this car possibly in the wet at the speeds he was doing with the modified engine. I am glad he is OK. A lesson to learn for everyone.
