I think Ickx did a one off GP on a Cooper Maserati, and Villeneuve had a race on a McLaren. But in F1 terms, there were rather unexperienced.
If I had to do it all over I would have traveled to England and begged borrowed or stole for a F1 mechanics job back in 1975 or perhaps in '78 after my Army sheetmetal training . I was a fairly good wrench. Not taken a "no". Next lifetime
