Ferraris do not melt in the rain! ;-) I was out and about in my 430 spider when the skies turned ugly. I desperately tried to make it home, but the front was moving too fast. Before I could reach cover, the skies opened up, and a torrential downpour was upon me. Needless to say I was horrified! My mind was racing, and my heart was pounding. I was frantically trying to remember whether my insurance policy had a melting endorsement. I thought for sure my entire investment would be gone. I made it home, and I got out of my car, prepared for the worse. But nothing could have prepared me for what I found . . . My car was . . . wet! And now, after a few hours in the garage, my car is dry. Tomorrow I will wash it, and I can put this whole ugly incident behind me!!
The paint peels off overnight after being doused by rain water. Only fix is to cover the car in baking flour immediately to absorb the moisture. Wash "that" off in the morning
I always hold the umbrella while driving! Can't afford to take any risks. I used to drive it with the car cover on before, but as I was getting weird looks, I now only used the umbrella.
From the thread title I thought you were going to say you saved a bunch of money on car insurance...this was better. All that said...I'd bet there are thousands of Ferrari's that have never been in the rain...
Man, you were lucky, mine usually explodes when it rains, then melts and because i've done over 20k in mine it then explodes again after it melts John.
I only had my CS for a few days when I got caught in a torrential down pour. I am not one of those, "Oh, God..... the Ferrari can't get wet, otherwise it will melt". But my big fear was how the P Zero Corsa's would handle the rain. No problem. Car handled great, and I got to bind with the CS while detailing it the next day!
Umm, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it usually takes about 24 hours. If I were you I would recheck your garage to see if there is anything beyond a puddle of slime in your garage where the car was back when it was solid! By the way, good luck explaining what happened to the insurance company whey they can't even find a mangled VIN number to identify the melted slime in your garage (the VIN plate melts with the car- yes I know it's strange since it didn't necessarily get hit with the rain, but it's just the way it works with these things...)
Ha, great post! Fortunately it didn't hail, as that's a different matter! I've been stuck in hail 3 times this year in the midwest, once in my 996tt which took a beating but fortuntately no damage was done. Lots of strong storms here in Ohio this year for some reason.
My main concern would have been LEAKS . The second is the engine becomes a freaking mess after a wash or rain, and it's a PITA to clean. But other than that, just like any other car . For some reason, the windows don't seem to seal tight enough against the rubber gaskets, but maybe I'm wrong. And no, I don't direct the spray in those areas when washing it. Good day.
LOL! Luckily the car was still there this morning, but I checked again this afternoon just to be sure!
Buy a 200 MPH weed blaster and use it to "blow dry" your engine compartment. Works like a charm! Seriously! Do it each time I wash the car, never a spot left behind!
