I just put my 83 308 qv front hood on. Now it will not open!! WTF!!!! The hood has not been on the car for two years. When I pull the front lever it releases the hood 3/4 to one inch then it is locked again. If I try to pull up on the hood with the lever pulled open still nothing! I can push it back down, I can hear a click. I can hear the cable release the latch then it will pop up the 1 inch. Is there a safety latch? please help!!! thanks Bill!

try pulling on the lid while holding the open latch - inside the car ........ might work!

I did that, like I said it will pop up the one inch but then nothing. I then can push it back down and re-close it.

The same thing happened to me about five years ago. The previous owner ran a make shift cable to the latches and the cable had stretched over time thus not releasing the bonnet. What I did (if I remember correctly) was removed the front grill/bumper and unbolted the bonnet at the hinges. Then carefully slid the bonnet towards the front of the car until the bonnet was clear of the latches. Be carefull not to scratch your paint (bonnet studs on the underside) while removing the bonnet. Also, it is helpful if someone can give you a hand. I hope that helps!

Did you try the backup cable? Both the front and rear lids have a second cable on my 85 QV. They are hidden pretty well since they are seldom needed. Mine is normally tucked behind the carpet but I pulled it out for this picture. I assume they are there just in case the primary cable breaks.

sounds like a latch alignment issue as there are 2 latches on these so one of them is probably hanging up..sometimes it helps to have an extra person to do this once the lid is closed have the out side person gently press down on the lid in the center, once its compressed down the person inside pulls the release open and then outside person can try to pull the hood up.if that fails than do the same thing on which ever side of the hoods not releasing.

I want to thank all you guys for your help!!! In the end I had to take 5 of the 6 hood bolts out. It was not that hard, but my wife had to come down in the shop and help. If this hapens to you use two people it's the only way. I think I made the hood to tight to the front, this made it catch on the crash safty slide. Now both of the latches are working as they should! I'm going to diagnose more in the morning. Thanks all!
