    OK, I'm going to BRIC again (4th in a row, baby) with my brother and my dad (our annual GUYS trip), and we've got two old-favorite places to eat, but we've had a rough time finding places with decent local faire and good service that you can actually get a table at during that weekend.

    I made reservations at the lake-street cafe something like 6-weeks out, and BARELY got in, and we go to this great sport-bar/grille place on lake Mich. in sheboygan proper at least once... but almost everywhere else we've been has been disappointing.

    any ideas?

    I haven't been there in years, but the American Club in Kohler, WI used to be pretty good.

    you are correct, the American Club is VERY nice... BUT....

    its just a touch too rich for this trip. my brother is s professional grease monkey (builds and restores a lot of the cars that run up there) and he HATES anything white-napkin... so dad and I try to respect that.

    excellent point though. That whole town is very nice...

    This aboslutely no help, but my wife and I stopped at a little hole in the wall mexican place a couple of years aog somewhere near the marina. Good food...about 20 tables in a 20x30 room...was wild and fun if you like to be adventurous =).

    There's always the Subway in Elkhart =)

    Here are a few recommendations for you: (1) In the village of Elkhart Lake try the Victorian Village. You still might be able to get a table on the back terrace overlooking the lake. It's a perfect setting before tackling the Friday & Saturday evening crowds. (2) If you're up for the drive into Sheboygan try Stefano's, a very fine Italian restaurant . . . great food and casual. And of course never to be missed is Siebkins bar. Great sandwiches and great crowd! Good luck.

    I had the buffet at Siebkens last year for dinner up at the BRIC. It was pretty good. But it was $30.

    It was funny. My buddy gives me $20 and gets up to go to the bathroom while we waited for the check. I tried to not have my eyes bulge out of my head when I saw the bill. We were figuring it to be a $15 buffet at BEST. When I saw that it was the most expensive buffet I had ever eaten at (outside the breakfast buffet at the Chicago Hilton) I just started laughing out loud at the table.

    It was pretty good though.....

    Good call on the bar crowd at Siebkens. Siebkens is pretty much the place to be that weekend.

    The Horse and Plow is the "casual" restaurant at the American Club, give them a shot. No white-napkin there but great American-style food.

    great info guys, thanks. Stefano's and maybe the horse and plow...

    my dad doesn't drink, so taking him to a bar is like anathema to fun.

    my brother and I, on the other hand... have been known to partake from time to time.

    I'll put a picture up later, in case one of y'all happens accross us at the track...

    After hours! Actually Siebkens also provides live music and dancing outside in their garden. That typically goes until mdinight. Also both Siebkens and the Osthoff have outdoor bars set up throughout the eveing right on the main street. This is a very user friendly event!

    User friendly is right. Food, drink, bathrooms, music, cars, all in one place.....

    A few miles outside of Elkhart Lake, north of town I believe, there's a place called Bruce's. I had a great steak there about 5-6 years ago.

    I don't think you can camp there. I don't know where you would be able to. I think the campsites are about 4 turns or so before that. They might be up by the Carousel.

    Camping is inside the Carousel, there is also some first-come-first served inside turn 2.
