Hi guys. I'm considering getting a F430 shortly and was wondering where folks in the Chicago-area go to have fun with their vehicles? I currently drive a Porsche Boxster S and have just been having fun on Lake Shore Drive at night and otherwise up Sheridan Road.

Any good ideas on fun roads within an hours-or-so drive of Chicago?

I80/88 very early in the morning, run it flat out :D Those roads are all too familiar to 200+ mph runs.

Hey there Webster. Yes, there are some really great Country Roads out in the waaay Far Western " 'burbs" and in Southern Wisconsin that we have driven. 2 lane country roads. Nice and smooth, 55 MPH posted Speed limit. Lots of Fun.

Watch out on LSD....The Chicago P.D. are pretty tough characters, and don't take speeding on that road very lightly. I've lived here most of my life, and I certainly wouldn't mess with them, or piss 'em off.

Yeah, as was mentioned, I-88 Westbound is nice. You can take it all the way out to the Mississippi River, and make a nice day trip out of it. Or I-90 out to Rockford, or beyond up to Wisconsin. I-294 North to Kenosha, WI. get off at Hwy 50. Go about 1/2 mile West and have lunch at "The Brat Stop". Mmmm Mmmm Good!

Thanks for the good suggestions. By now, I've of course committed the heresy of picking up a '06 Gallardo instead of the F430. But I'll enjoy the recommendations none the less ;)

    David,

What two types of car did you try, e-gear vs f1?

Its not anywhere near Chicago but the rolling hills west of Madison, WI are very nice especially in the fall. Near Chicago, I would suggest zipping around in the early hours of the morning near La Grange where its surrounded by many forest preserves and near 294 or taking the many back roads that run along the Fox river as far south as Aurora all the way up to Kenosha county. All these suggestions best driven at odd times where lost or slow moving traffic would not be an issue.

Best of luck in your Lambo quest. There is nothing wrong with that car as I always thought their tranny and interior finish felt better compared to the 430.

I tried both manual and f1/e.egear on the Ferrari and the Lambo. I didn't like the manual on the Ferrari at all, but the F1 was very fun. The manual on the lambo was more to my taste, but I still picked the e.gear for spirited driving. Taking fast turns and downshifting correctly is pretty hard if you want to keep both hands on the wheel ;).

And I already have my Boxster S as a manual. So e.gear seemed the right thing to do.

Yeah, the interior and look of the car helped seal the deal in the lambo favor. But my next supercar is definitely going to be a Ferrari. I loved driving that too. So unfair that I had to choose ;)

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes the roads around Madison are fun. We have lots of twistys and hills. Look up Minte on this forum he has by far put the most miles on his G-car around here. That is after Bill, but he does not count anymore. lol!!!!!!

    Wow!!!

Wiped completely off the Wisconsin radar, I see!!! Gone AND forgotten!!! ;-)

Imagine the mileage I will be able to put on now that I have a full 12 month driving season instead of the 5 months I had in Wisconsin........

Yeah, Minte does put a lot of miles on. And he holds the Dubuque to Madison time record. 63 minutes if I remember right........

There is a slight issue and it might not (probably won't) be here this weekend. I am not thrilled about it because I want it NOW, but it is better in the long run that it isn't coming this weekend.

Details and pics as SOON as I get it.

I will for SURE have it next weekend, or I will be heading to the dealership to install the part myself.........
