What is the difference between a decent $60 pair from Kohls and something in the $150-$250 range? I'm talking either dress shoes or semi-dress (leather) shoes. Is the soles still rubber? Are they made by hand then? Not sure other than say Allen Edmunds what might be in that range, but was always curious as to the difference the extra $100-$150 gets you and in the quality. Thanks.

    Good choice.

I have a couple pairs -- lace-up cap toe and venetian loafer. Great shoes, with square toes but subtly so.

10 pairs $60 of shoes will crease, look like crap and wear out before one pair of $350 Pradas or Ferragamos....as well as be far less comfortable to wear.

    Puma BMW Inflection F1 :D -_-

and a pair of plain white lacoste sneakers...that are beat to hell but i've had em for a few years and wear 'em every day. slowly getting replaced by these pumas. i'm not a big shoe guy, so when i find a pair that i like, i buy two or three pairs so i can wear em into the ground, and then start over with a new pair of the exact same shoes

oh, and i've got those crazy adidas running shoes [Adidas One/1, i think] with the computer inside of 'em that allows for adjustable dampening/shock stiffness, kinda like my volvo! :p

Shoes like Allen Edmunds get you leather soles, semi-hand made, better build quality and will last a whole lot longer. And generally speaking look a whole lot better.

However not all shoes in the $150 range are better than $60 dollar Kohls. Do a bit a research before plonking down cash if you're concerned more about quality than about brand.

Someone already mentioned them, but Alden makes a nice dress shoe. They are also made in the US, so that might be a plus (or a minus, depending on how you look at it). Also, for a more causal shoe, you can't go wrong with Tods.
