I thought this would be fun to compare picks. By university, which are the greatest football players ever. By definition, most of the plyers I will list are either retired or toward the end of their career. Basically who is the greatest NFL player to come out of the school you have listed?

I'll start with some easy ones.

    Alcorn State: Steve McNair
    Mississippi Valley State: Jerry Rice
    Oklahoma State: Barry Sanders
    BYU: Steve Young
    Carlisle Indians: Jim Thorpe
    Louisville: Johnny Unitas
    Pitt: Dan Marino
    Kansas: Gale Sayers
    Jackson State: Walter Payton
    SMU: Eric Dickerson
    San Diego State: Marshall Faulk

And maybe a few more debatable ones:
    Virginia Tech: Bruce Smith
    Mizzou: Kellen Winslow
    USC: O.J. Simpson
    Miami (FL): Warren Sapp
    Notre Dame: Joe Montana

So who you got to add or correct?

I'd almost take Jeremy Maclin over Kellen Winslow from Mizzou

    Tennessee - Peyton Manning

Maclin is having a very good NFL career, but I picked Winslow because for several years he was simply the best tight end in football. He is in the Hall of Fame mainly for one game however. The playoff game against Miami is one of the most incredible performances by a player in NFL history.

Tennessee is an interesting one, they have had many great players. Reggie White couold also be mentioned.

Are you kidding me? Debatable? Joe Montana is the greatest quarterback, ever.

I am surprised you don't have Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and (potentially) Drew Brees.

I thought there might be some debate with ND. Paul Hornung played in a different era, who knows what he could have done today. And while I constantly am annoyed by Joe Theismann the broadcaster, he was a great QB on an average team most of his career.

At Tennessee, Manning may very well be the best player, but as a lifelong Packer fan Reggie White also could make that claim.

Michigan and Brady are tough for me, because I personally don't care for either. Brady is a great QB for the Belichick system, making few mistakes. I would love to see how he would do under a different coach. Charles Woodson has had a fantastic NFL career (again half with the Packers).

Purdue has produced a surprising number of NFL quarterbacks. Brees is possibly the best QB in the league now. Len Dawson and Bob Griese also had very successful careers.

    Here are more.
    Navy: Roger Staubach
    Stanford: John Elway
    UCLA: Troy Aikman
    Florida State: Deion Sanders
    Texas: Earl Campbell
    Washington: Warren Moon
    Grambling: Charlie Joiner

You're right, not sure why I was thinking Florida State.

I had thought Warrick Dunn so maybe that's why I confused myself. Unfortunately Warrick wasn't the same player in the NFL that he was in college. Wy I didn't list him.

    Difficult call for my Buckeyes...

    1) Jack Tatum
    2) Eddie George
    3) Chris Carter
    4) Orlando Pace
    5) Randy Gradishar
    6) Antoine Winfield

    Thoughts from non-Buckeyes?

I would say Eddie George was an average NFL back, he played awhile though. Still I wouldn't put him at the top. I'd probably replace him with Paul Warfield who had a great pro career and was considered a threat every time he touched the ball, which wasn't often in the run-based era in which he played. They still talk about him on sports radio in Miami.

Hmm, Ole Miss...Archie? Eli? Patrick Willis?

Turncoat; yes, I'm still bitter. :(

    Shoutout for an O lineman...nice!

    North Carolina.

I wonder how many folks know/recall that Aikman actually started at OU but got hurt and was replaced by Jamelle Holieway. The Sooners went back to the option, won the title in '85, and then Aikman transferred. Ironically Switzer and Aikman reunited with the Cowboys to win a Super Bowl.

Regarding Grambling, I don't know the school's full history but where does Doug Williams rank?

Good call on Warfield and the gang there. That was way before my time but I know Paul gets a lot of love in Columbus to this day as well...
