Ok, after just waxing my 79 308 GTB with Griot's orbital and their best of show wax and being a long time Meguiars 3 part system and NXT system user, I need some serious feedback about what you guys KNOW to be the best wax you have used. Before anyone starts with their opinions, I only want real info from people that have actually used more than one system on the same car, hopefully one right after another. And only first hand knowledge, not what your detailer, who is trying to make money likes to use. Please give any info you have available such as whether you removed the old wax before putting new on etc.
Has anyone ever used this Zymol wax that costs $8000 bucks . The next best wax they have costs only $1800 but only has about 10 % less canauba in it.
Thanks for all your input. I really want to help people with some real knowledge here so in the spirit of real science any controls that can be noted would be greatly appreciated. Please don't give input if you have ANY affiliation with wax products.

I really want to answer some real questions about what really works. I have no connection with any products but just want to help people on this site learn what really works.

I am trying to help the guy who invests his own elbow grease. My 13 year old son and I like waxing the car together but we want the best results possible for the time invested.

You'll get a million opinions about what is the best. Everyone has their own favorites.

I've used Mothers for 15 years and love it. IBIZ isn't bad either.

No wax can really be considered best, as you can get very similar finishes with many different waxes of varying prices, its all about the prep. If you have never clayed a car, do it next time you wash, before you wax, and then wax, you'll notice a huge difference. There are favorite waxes despite the fact that many look similar, and some common, very nice waxes are: Menzerna, Poor Boys Nattys, Optimum Car Wax, Pinnacle Souveran, Zaino.

As you can see, many people have many opinions, and thats just waxes. You can also get into sealants, which act like waxes, but protect a bit longer, and give a more, clear, sharper finish, compared to the deep, wet finish of waxes.

Most of the best products you can find cant be found at any local shop. The best locally found wax I've used is Meguiar's #26.

I'd suggest you go to www.autopia.org, and register, learn some about the depth there really is in detailing. Just wait for the results when you get into polishing...

Also, most detailers have no affiliation with any wax brands, and they frequently go back and forth with what the customer wants the car to look like. Zymol wax is overrated, as it gives a really nice shine and depth, but doesnt protect as long as some other, less expensive waxes. I do believe that with the very expensive waxes, you do get lifetime refills...

In another section, someone borught up a wax that you can buy at harley dealerships for $15. Supposedly quite good for the money.

I have had my car Zaino'd with two coats, and they a coat of Zymol Red to give it depth. Really like the results.

The product doesn't matter nearly as much as the prep work does.

My vote would be for any synthetic (I use Zaino) followed by P21S if you want shine, though.

Meg's NXT Tech wax user here! And I agree.. Zymol is nice, goes real easy on and off, and smells like candy... but the protection hardly lasts long at all. By the way, I've heard that this stuff called Adam's "butter wax" is really good too. Has anyone here used this stuff??

I think its called P100, and its indentical to P21S, which is a great wax, but the P100 costs a lot less.

The best compromise between $ and time, in my opinion is 3 layers of Mequire's NXT topped with Zymol Ital Glaze. This is after all of the usual prep work. If you have film, don't use any wax that is yellow and stay away from the seams. So I only use NXT on the film.

He's definitely one of the greatest moderators ever.

    Back to the thread...

Yes, preparation matters as much as wax. Not sure what color your car is, but I've waxed black cars and it has to be close to operating-room clean before you do anything with a foam pad and especially an orbital buffer. I've hand-waxed silver (new Mercedes) with Zymol, and as long as the surface is immaculate you'll do fine. Old cars are going to need to be clayed.

I've tried both carnuba and synthetic waxes. Every carnuba wax I used looked good at first, but I could feel the wax evaporate over the course of a month even in my enclosed garage. The surface would start to feel tacky as I rubbed my finger along the car body and water would stop beading. My personal opinion is that a carnuba wax would be good just before a show, but unless you like waxing every month you would be better off with a synthetic.

The synthetic waxes don't have quite as much shine initially, but they seem to last quite a bit longer. I have used the following on my cars over the years: Meguiar's Gold Class, Meguiar's #26, Meguiar's Deep Crystal 3-stage, Turtle Wax Emerald, Turtle Wax Excalibur, Zymol (the blue kind from Target), and Zaino. I really like Meguiar's Gold Class paste wax. It goes on very easily in a nice thin layer and comes off with a minimal amount of buffing. It also seems to provide protection for quite a long time.

I also liked the Zaino, but on the Ferrari it seemed to be a touch agressive and left a little more red paint residue on the polishing cloth than I felt comfortable with. The Gold Class seems to be very mild and I can always use the Deep Crystal cleaner if I ever see any haze or dullness in the finish.

For my time and money, the best combination is to clay the car with Mother's clay (Meguiar's clay sucks), clean with Deep Crystal #1, and finish with Gold Class wax. If you have time you can apply Deep Crystal #2 polish too, but I haven't noticed a difference in the final result after wax has been put on top of it.

Just for the sake of this conversation, it's fair to mention that Zaino is a polish - not a wax - and thus shouldn't be included in the comparison to other waxes....

Ahh, I just figured it out after reading the other thread.. He did use Pinnacle Souveran on the 430 though, but he does amazing work. You should post the befores of the 430, the transformation is wonderful.
