I thought some of you guys might want to hear this for a change from the Ferrari/ Mclaren posts.

In his last rally in NZ he beat Seb Loeb by 0.3 seconds after 350 km of gravel rallying.

Two-time world rally champion Marcus Gronholm has announced that he will retire at the end of the 2007 season.

The Finn currently leads the battle to clinch a third crown, having a 10-point cushion over reigning champion Sebastien Loeb of the Citroen team. Gronholm, who drives for Ford, won titles with Peugeot in ’00 – his first full season at the top level – and ’02. His 30 rally wins make him one of the winningest drivers in the sport's history.

"Over 20 years of rallying have given me a lot and I've always dreamed of ending my career on its top," he stated. "Now I have an excellent chance to make it happen and I'm going to use it.

"There are no dramatics involved as I want to give possibilities for younger driver to reach their dreams - like I have done."

Gronholm’s longtime co-driver Timo Rautiainen will join him in retirement.

Personally I hate drivers announcing their retirement before the end of the year, particularly in a dangerous series such as rallying. From now until the end of the season I will be on tenterhooks, hoping that he is not killed. Stewart and Lauda got it right IMO.

Hopefully that won't happen to him. He's an excellent driver and quite a charachter.
