Well, the did say they want to have an experienced driver. Grossjean is and in addition he's also an expert in DNFs

2 skills for one price. Smart move!

    Waste of talent, I'd say.

Maybe he is pushing his value for the upcoming Renault deal. They surely would want a French driver.

Just about everyone except for Hamilton, Vettel, Rosberg and Alonso have been linked to this seat so far.

It's a new team, chance that they are going to do well (by which I mean be ahead of Marussia and now Mclaren constantly) is small. having a sniff at points at many races is extremely small.

Haas is better of putting Rossi (the American) in the seat and presumably Stoffel Vandoorne or an ex F1 boy with experience (for instance Vergne).

As already said, in fact he is more Swiss than French. He holds both nationalities, legally.
Of course, should he win one (or more...) in the future, it would be open to reevaluation...

Vandoorne is on a lot of teams radar, I think just about every team would want him as a reserve driver, Rossi probably has a lot of interest as well. I think a lot of drivers are keeping the door open on Hass incase they loose their ride for next season.

Grosjean and Gutierrez are currently the two drivers listed for Haas.

Sadly Hulk turned down the offer, but I'm glad to see Lettuce potentially at Ferrari-B.

Interesting pairing if you asked me. If they can get both, and Rossi as a reserve
driver, then they couldn't asked for more.

that's what is said. He is an expert in DNF and the fans of him might say that it's never his fould. Well if you end up in the wrong spot ALWAYS than who else is to blame.

I never rated Grossjean as a talent btw I never understood why he was able to maintain his career for so long. For him the perfect teammate is Maldonado of coarse taking all the attention on crashing but Grossjean did very well in that department too.

Grosjean has leveled out, and hes terribly terribly fast. He's just had a rough set of cars and cirumstances.

Vergne or Grosjean would be excellent choices for an experienced F1 driver.

Grosjean had a troubles early in his career but I think that he has exorcised his demons. At the moment he is doing a fine job. I hope that the Lotus-Renault deal happens and that he gets a shot with a decent team.

Assuming the Renault buy out happens, would they 'like' a French jockey? (OK, I know he's partly Swiss, but he chooses to be listed as French. ;)) My impression, from our limited # of French posters at least, is they don't give a damn!......

Wasn't that long ago Lettuce was going to be the next great Ferrari jockey according to some here. ;) Having said that, I don't think he'd be a bad choice for them these days.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Actually I talked to French fans at Spa and they do care about Lettuce and his 3rd spot was big news in French media. He is also on ads of Total (French gas company).

Only guys like me think of his Swiss roots :)

Well, the question is not whether he is more french or swiss...as said above, the Guy is fast (his times at Lotus were as good as, or better, than Kimi's) and he drove very well at Spa. Seems to have exorcised his démons, too.
I'm wondering about the rationale of This Renault team, that's what I am puzzled by...

    A Ghosn ego trip maybe?

I certainly don't claim to know, but from what I'm reading a Lotus "buy back" seems likely. Can he get the board to agree to come back? My guess is he'd have to *really* put his balls on the line with promises of the WCC within X years......

    Cheers,
    Ian

I don't have Renault's bylaws in mind at the moment, but I would Say he got another four-year mandate as CEO about six months ago, so that would leave him with three years and a half to succeed and bring a WCC - unlikely - to his board should he hope for another four-year term after the one he has now. But it has been said to be "highly unlikely", so?

Possibly a way to show Renault he is marketable elsewhere/in-demand. I agree that if Renault take over Lotus, he will stay given his ties to Total.

I still believe that the reserve driver could go to Rossi, that if he wants to do that.
If he doesn't do that, the path will be even harder to get back into F1.

The Brazilian press said that Haas approached Nelson Piquet Jr, current FIA F-E champion, but he turned down any interest.
