    Hello !

I have some trouble with the ground clearance of my 89' Testarossa (50 000 km)
I've just noticed a difference between right and left side, the front left side is 2 cm under the right side.
I've checked the suspension parts after removal of the front left wheel: there's no leaks from the shock, no play in the bushings...
The car has never been accidented and only a short track experience 3 weeks ago.

What should I look at now ?

    Many thanks

    Louis

I've made the measurements from ground to the fender border (?) just above the tire. I've taken the same alignment from side to side by taking the measurement by the center of the wheel. Anyway, you could see the difference just by look at the car...

I would suggest checking the ground clearance from the center of the lower control arm bolts to verify.

The proper way to measure ride height would be from the lower edge of the wheel, not tire, to the lower edge of the fender or a set point above the fender lip.

The bottom of the wheel is a fixed point as is the fender.

If you try to measure from the ground, while close, you can be off due to tire inconsistencies.

This will at least allow you to determine whether there is any difference between each side. THEN you can measure ride height knowing where problems may lie.

These are the measurements that I got from the lower edge of the wheel to the lower edge of the fender:

    Front Left: 58.5 cm
    Front Right: 60 cm

    Rear Left: 61 cm
    Rear Right: 61 cm

What would you do next and how to know if the shocks or the springs are implicated ?
Change both sides (spring and/or shocks) ?

The ground is not flat or the car is bent or both :(
    My guess is the ground.

That's what I was thinking, but the difference is obvious and in different places

I would suggest to take it to an alignment shop and let them tell you why. Maybe not as much fun as guessing but certainly better than remote diagnoses over the internet.

do not measure from the fender. it can be inconsistant.

measure from the lower control arm mounting to the ground on a flat surface. my guess is you will find that it is close to even.

    Regards, Jim

    Dear Ferraristi,

Do you have a concrete garage floor? If not, see if you have a friend with a warehouse or even your preferred mechanic. Those floors are closer to even than a driveway...especially asphalt.
