The parts book shows a ground strap (#45) on the alternator page (US '78 GTS). I don't have such a strap on my car, so am wondering which two parts it connects. The part description is motor ground cable.

It's not the "alternator page" -- it's the "electric system generating" page (or something like that) -- so it's not specifically located with the alternator, but it truly is the "motor ground cable". You can see it here on a 328 and 308QV (and I think a 308 carb is similar) -- look at the rear RH side of the powerplant and frame crossmember holding the two rear motor mounts.

Steve, thanks for the pictures. Now that I know where to look, I found that ground wire. I was just looking too close to the alternator.
