Bride has received instructions to lower cholesterol. So, I bought ground turkey, and lots of it. Big-ass bag of Jasmine rice, too. This past week, I've made delicious burgers, Americanized tacos & meatloaf using recipes found on web. These are all distinctly Westernized American in flavor profile and whatnot with turkey, onion, garlic, celery, crackers, egg whites & appropriate spices. Chili is next on the agenda & can wing that one easily. Along with the healthy diet, that's all well and good, BUT like many here, I like to run the gamut from Chinese to Cajun to Mediterranean . . . and as we all know, the experts on everything are here. Got recipes?
Just be careful that the ground turkey isn't worse than beef. Some of the ground stuff actually has a higher fat content. I used to make a pretty mean SOS sort of dish with ground chicken or turkey. Brown it off with onion, garlic, and lots of your favorite spices. To keep it healthy, I used 99% fat free cream of mushroom soup, mix and heat well. Serve over your favorite rice and enjoy. You can add in fresh or frozen veggies to make it a complete meal too. As for the cholesterol have you looked at garlic pills? They also help me with heartburn somehow??
Meatballs. Seasoned well, you cannot tell a difference. Please don't tell my poor grandmother I said that though, she'd keel over on the spot. Mark
It's the salmonella that scares me about ground turkey. Otherwise I would use all the time. Feel the need to use a flame thrower in my kitchen when poultry products pass through.
I make Spinach-Feta-Turkey burgers. I love them. Per 1lb of ground turkey I use half a package of (thawed)frozen spinach and eye ball the feta. Choose whatever spices you want. Delicious.
I recently found some lean turkey burgers in the frozen foods section. They actually are pretty tasty. I season them up well and fry them up in a little bit of olive oil.
