My original Ansa exhaust is sprouting new holes, so its time for a change. I've read previous threads on 246 exhaust choices and would like some personal opinions on how the Tubi vs Ansa vs other exausts sound based on what you've heard i.e. deep rumble, stacatto, machine gun, howitzter (what ever comes to mind, which really is ones impression) I've read that a certain exhaust sounds great, but how? What sounds great to one may not be what someone else is looking for. I don't think a 246 should sound like a 430, unless that is what you are looking for. Also appreciated is any other experiences with the systems from finish to performance to installation. Thanks to all in advance,
    Zannos

My experiance with Dino exhaust is old stock, new Tubi street, and new Tubi competion which I have on my own 246. The competition is perfectly suitable for the street and really produces that basso profundo and is really loud only when your really into it, very nice sounds but may be too much for some on extended drives.
The Tubi street also has nice sounds but is much quieter and will be easier on you if you drive alot.
My stock exhaust was pretty old and was pretty noisy, the competition is also fairly loud but with a much nicer sound. You metioned that growl which I think the competition will give you. I had my son drive my Dino going away from me and the sound was glorius as the revs picked up.
I hope this helps a bit in your selection.

I agree with Gary -- Tubi: comp or non-comp.

    Dave,
That is just georgeous, but i am now eaten up with envy!
I bought my car back in April, drove it up my drive and back twice then proceeded to take it to bits and then send it to the bodyshop where it sits in the corner and my colleauge does a bit to it whenever he can fit it in between his regular work. It is currently down to bare metal on the offside rear only. Hey mabey next year who knows?

It took mine about 6 or 7 moths to emerge from its engine rebuild after I bought it so.......... I guess patience is something you get for free when you buy an older Ferrari.

    Hi:

I also have a 73 US car and replaced the exhaust last year. I used the Tubi street and IT SOUNDS AMAZING. To qualify that, I have owned a Challenge Stradale, many race cars, many Ferraris, and NONE of them sound as good as the Tubi. I have owned other Ferraris with Tubis, but the Dino really sounds the best. The quality is very fitting of a Ferrari. The stainless they use is the same grade they use in kitchen sinks (from what I understand, much higher grade than what is used in the Stebro).

You might give Chuck a call from Evans Automotove. They sell all of these exhausts and make the only Headers I can find for US cars *which I am considering).

    I hope that helps.

Replaced the original rusty and leaky Ansa with a Stebro Sport exhaust. I'm told the "Sport" version has a bit more aggressive note than the Stebro Std. version. My impression is that it has a more open and deeper, throaty sound than the Ansa and a bit louder also. To my ear, it sounds awesome at higher rpms. My GTS would be uncomfortable on long trip with the top off.

The Stebro seemed to be of good quality construction and installed/fit nicely, assuming the headers weren't removed - that's a ***** of a job, even after the fiber glass shrouds have been removed - that's another story if anyone's interested.

The only problem with the Stebro is the "donut" gaskets normally supplied by McCann don't fit so you may have to hit the local Napa parts store for those. Be sure to replace rubber mounts as well. I had to fiddle with the hanger brackets quit a bit to get the system positioned properly.

Note the screws on the bottom of each tip! I assume that's to allow one to replace the cores which can rust-out long before the SS exhaust.

I have 246 GT L-series car (1969) which (probably) still has the original exhaust system. No holes or other probs (yet), tho I'm "planning for the future"! When I acquired the car in late '01 I attempted to have Tubi's fitted, but was told by the shop at that time that the car had 206 headers (early Dinos share many parts w/ the 206) and that Tubi does not make a system to fit 206 headers. I was told the same thing by the guys in the booth w/ the large Tubi banner at the Concorso Italiano last month. Anybody got any thoughts/comments/suggestions on this?

    John,
Tis I. Contrary to my user name i am swayed towards painting the car in Grigio Ferro Metallizzato (dark mettalic grey to us non Italians), much as i would love to have the car in its original colour of Black i really do not think these cars lend themselves to that colour and it would worry me that it would show every mark and scratch, however by the time it does get painted i may have changed my mind!.
Hows your car going John? i think i am right in saying that your the person who bought his car from Nick Cartwright, and a fine looking car it is!

    Regards Graham.
