Signed with Grundy today. For my needs they were exactly what I needed.

They handled the transition and met my expectations with flying colors. Good to go.

Also brought my insurance down by over 50% with higher coverage.

I am more of a collector/show car owner than weekend warrior. So the shoe fit.

I had a similar experience, will see how and if the rates change over time.

If you could compare what you had before to Grundy what percentage did you save

I went from only having storage insurance to full coverage on both of my cars for thousands less. With the values going up, this included an increase in the coverage amount as well.

1/2 the price of Hagerty, with higher coverage. Had Condon Skelly for one year, but they would not increase the value on my cars to where I was comfortable, so went to Grundy. Saved a few bucks over C/S, but was more for coverage.

Important to note here is how R.Robot uses the car. Grundy is great for this type of usage. If you are evaluating a new provider, check what they deem as acceptable usage of your car.

I have had Grundy for years. They have always been good about use: i.e. no mileage restriction. The only real restriction on driving was not a daily - errands, to/from work, etc. But last year they relaxed that as well stating that they "understand people like to drive their collector car to work on occasion."

I shop other companies but have not found a better solution for me and my cars.

I was going to point out their restrictions on driving your car, for instance, to work.

Following up on being told the same last year, just last weekend I asked if my car was covered in the parking lot at work or a grocery store. I was told, "well he was just following protocol" saying my car would not be covered in the parking lot at work. As I began walking away, he tried to continue along the lines of "but we'd work with you" or something like that. As if I'm going to expect an insurance company to skip using a standard restriction of their policy when it's time to pay out!

If I had Grundy, I'd sure be checking what's in writing on my policy.

This is exactly why I went with Chubb when Hagerty jacked up my premium w/out factoring in the increased value. Great price and I didn't have to ask permission to do anything with my own car. If all you do is go to car shows, Grundy is great. I like to use my car as a car every now and then. They wanted me to call and ask to use my car on a case by case scenario. I already have a wife that wants the same thing and even then I usually just do what I want.

    Hey Gents -

LONG time lurker (10 years), first time poster. I recently rejoined the 308 club with an 85 QV GTS, and hope to give back a tiny bit of the incredible amount of knowledge and support I've received from all of you.

Since I recently shopped for insurance, I thought I would add my own experience as another data point. I've been with Hagerty for the last 12 years (for my first 308, and my '85 911 Cab). Sadly, a minor fender bender totaled my 911 in January (another interesting insurance story for another thread - learned a lot!!)

Anyway, for my new QV, Hagerty quoted me an annual premium of $1400 for a $75K value. Not sure how much of that ridiculous premium was a result of my recent claim (no previous claims in the 12 years with them, or 30 years overall). So I started shopping around. Chubb insures my home, and they were willing to write the 308, but only if I moved all vehicles. Despite my agent pushing them, they said they would need 14 days to write the quote. In this day and age of near instant quotes, that seemed bizarre. Ultimately, I couldn't quite embrace an insurance company in a competitive industry not meeting my service level expectations for a rapid turnaround - made me wonder how responsive their customer service would be if I ever had a claim. Which prompted me to reach out to my primary insurance company, USAA. They partner with American Collector for classic cars. During the quote process (online and on phone), AC delivered the same excellent service I have come to expect from USAA.

So, here's what they came up with, for the same coverage levels above:

    - $531/year, for their base level. As everyone here has noted, I have learned to be a critical consumer of usage restrictions on classic car insurance. This quote had a 2,500 annual mileage limit, with the standard restrictions (hobby/show use only).

    - they also offer a "Freedom level", which increases annual mileage to 7,500, but more importantly, allows for "occasional general use", which was explained to me by the agent as essentially any use - errands, trips, work commute. The premium for this level was $931.

For my intended use, I was happy to pay the extra $400/year to not worry about coverage restrictions or limiting my personal enjoyment of the rolling work of art I own.

    Hope this helps.

Now that I am back on the team, I am committed to sharing my experiences here, and giving back to the community that has given me the confidence and enthusiasm to jump back into F-car ownership.

    Cheers -
    Dexter

Just for comparison, I'm with Grundy that insured my 84QV US with 84,500 miles.
    Agreed Value is $80K
    Annual fee is $457/year
    Unlimited mileage
Also allows for occasional general use
    0 deductable and more
Hagerty wanted twice the annual fee for less agreed value.

In speaking the people at Grundy, I asked if taking a pleasure drive is ok and stopping to have lunch.. They said it would be ok.

Also asked if during this pleasure drive if I stopped to pick up something from the store and parked the car, again I was told my car would be covered.

I think the big issue is a more frequent use as in driving to work a few times a week seems to be a sticking point.

But for me as I use the car much less than most here I feel the change from Hagerty to Grundy works for me.

Hope this helps. However I will be double checking with Grundy though email so I have something in writing.

I'm curious as to how any insurance company could ever decide that one of their insured was breaching their vague "going to work", "running errands", "occasional use" rules. It seems like this is a blanket statement to basically get out of covering a claim if they somehow feel like it.

I know Haggerty seems to be more expensive, but their rules seemed pretty straight forward, unless I'm missing something: 1) prove that you own/have another car more likely to be used as a daily driver and 2) keep to their max annual mileage agreement (of which there are different levels).

    Thoughts?

    Cheers!

    Ruben
