Vette ZR-1 Faster than the GT-R on the ring... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- See for yourself: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/10/v...4-ring-attack/ This car is a beast! Same power to weight ratio as the F430 Scud...
The L88 vettes were rated at 425 horsepower. They didn't have 425 horsepower. The Skyline GTR has been rated at 280 horsepower for quite some time, and it didn't have 280 horsepower. The Japanese are notorious for this type of thing. But the sheet says X so of course it only has X. If the spec sheet was different you'd be saying "it's not all about the specs."
From what ive heard Steve Millen is now working for Nissan, that might explain why he is a regular for nearly all Nissan GTR events. He goes on to say that the C&D driver didnt drive the GTR to it's absolute limits and hinted that they could have taken a turn far faster, however this doesnt account for the far slower 0-60, quarter mile etc times, and the fact that they were able to drive a the other RWD cars fast. My only explanation would be that C&D didn't have a ringer.
You're right. Everyone else who was faster including a guy's in Japan, a guy's in Australia, & a guy's here in the US were all ringers.
Lambo Lover, have you forgotten the raging Bull and become a FAN-BOY? Don't worry, everything will become clear in it's due time.
Actually, it was a 962, the 968 is indeed a fancy 16v inline four 3.0L variable cam 944. The 962 is a ground affects group C car loosely based on the 911 with a turbocharged flat six motor. The only regs in group C where basic crash protection, and a limit on how much fuel you could burn in a race.
Car and Driver seems to be consistently slower than Road and Track, I'd imagine its in a large part due to the drivers, and how hard they try to push a car. One is writing to a far more aggressive audience, the other, is looking for where the cup holders are.
1983 Porsche 956 at the Nurburgring under qualifying with traffic by the greatest driver who died too early. That record suposedly finally fell recently when BMW didn't "officially" time a lap in their F1 car.... other reports put it substantially into the 5 minutes mark. That said.... a 956 with Bellof driving today with modern rubber would be MUCH faster. The 968 wasn't a race car, the 956 was followed by the 962, which became necessary to race IMSA bringing the line of the front axle in front of the drivers' feet; requiring a slightly longer wheelbase for safety reasons. Any idea what spec tires the magazines are testing? I keep hearing the optional tire is well below 200 for treadware...
Yes, I'm a fanboy for disagreeing with ignorant & stupid comments from the haters. Perhaps you should read up more on the GT-R unlike monaro. Not every good GT-R time was set by a "ringer" & Steve Millen has already said C&D did not push the GT-R to its limits for the test which would explain why he achieved 1:56 & they achieved 2:01. There's nothing fanboy about stating facts to GT-R haters.
I agree, I've compared times for various things with car and driver, and they are slower. Granted - its how I'm going to drive my road car. I'm not treating every light like a drag strip, and knowing what it will do if I just step on it, as opposed to launching is nice. Course, its also nice to know the times it posts wen a decent driver pushes as fast as they can get. And frankly, the times aren't as important me as would I enjoy driving it, does it fit my needs, etc... I drive 944's, I could afford more expensive, faster, more powerful, but they(Porsches) are the cars I enjoy. Same goes with a lot of the Ferrari owners here, you could get a way faster track car than a 308 for the same money.
Results are in... http://www.gtrblog.com/media/blogs/gtrblog/RoadAndTrack/road-and-track-results.gif Didn't count on this one, a Lamborghini Gallardao LP560-4 took #2. I thought for sure it would be a ZR1, but neither it, nor the Scud were tested.
So, what have we learned? The GT-R is fast, the Gallardo is no longer a push-over, and the ACR is mother f***in' fast.
Bringing up an old topic... http://blog.andibaritchi.com/2008/09/can-you-drive-faster-than-computer.html Very telling as to this thing called "credibility" ...
