I think in the case of the GT2 & GT3's they maybe there for a reason.

um, its there for the same reason why all race cars have them.

BTW the "rice burners" got them from motorsports.

here's a F458 GT ALMS Racer. I'm pretty sure its doesnt burn any rice.

yes, race cars do have them but what is the point of having them for a street car? obviously we know what a spoiler does but in this day and age of active aerodynamics, its seems pointless and in my opinion ugly. the Carrera's and Panamera's have spoilers that deploy at higher speeds. just my $.02 and comparing apples to apples, i like the fact that my Scuderia doesn't have a park bench on its rear end!

It's been there since the first GT3...

Anyone with photoshop skills here? Remove the wing to see how it looks like without it.

if you removed the uprights, sort of speak, you have a ducktail spoiler already in place....

I reckon that will be the last manual GT3 as the RSR's have already, or are in the process of converting to flappy paddles. The 2.7 and 4.0 RS's seem to be fitting bookends to an era of the raw, focused Porsche 3 pedal car.

I want one...and the Porsche jacket the guy is wearing in the video.

If you didn't want to track it, you shouldn't buy a GT3RS...

Okay so today my wife saw this car and asked me "what is that?" Without skipping a beat I said "GT3 RS 4.0" She laughed a ton (she is a car girl and knows what I think of the scaffolding of the new wing).

You guys can like the new RS wing all you want. But just keep this picture in mind when you praise it. Its a good example of what mkultra is saying:

I agree, that's my favorite of the GT2/3/RS wings.

however, as pointed out elsewhere, take off the main element and its supports, and you have a nice little ducktail spoiler...

Looks nice like that. The salad bar rear wings are starting to get out of hand...

I agree completely. Many posters here are completely missing the point of the GT3 variants. These cars are made for the track and are street legal so you can drive them to/from the track. They're not for cruising around or commuting. In my opinion, the wings do look very silly on a street car but at the track, they are very cool...

The Carrera and Panamera wings most likely do not provide enough downforce. I didnt like the wings at first but i think it goes well with the car considering how track focused (for a road car) it is..

Porsche wings are functional whether race or street. They cant help it if people put knock off versions on their junker minivans and slammed civics. When porsche changes the rear wing shape they also change front spoiler and more to get the aero right. Not easy when theres 65% weight out back and car can go 200+

Since I drove it last week, I figured I should resurrect this thread from the dead.

Yeah, it lives up to all of the hype and more.

but does it live up to the stripes?

    :p

really, that's a pretty tacky looking car. I wonder if Porsche would let a customer order one without all the stripes and scripts and oddities.
