They sure did and so did he. I had a drink with him at the hotel at the track (I was out at Spa the next day) and he told me the new RS is so much fun to drive. Impressive care. Such a comment coming for Jacky means the car is really good. PS: the GT4 is a blast as well around Spa.
Porsche Ag were smart to get Jacky Ickx's endorsement of the car. Porsche Ag's tribute to the man: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdhmEeIyhJk[/ame]
Since this thread is about the Rennsport cars which have a direct Motorsports linkage, what better place than to show a series of Porsche Ag film-shorts (many of which feature Ickx) that highlight the heritage of the cars we love, and underscore why they are so good: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRDQi1YVg-c[/ame]
An a wonderful film about that epic year, 1982, perhaps Mezger's defining moment: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2iCwLt9nBU[/ame]
IMHO, the first 50 years of Porsche Motorsport history are distilled into the RS cars that are the subject of this thread. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Agreed. And that distillation is reaping dividends in the modern sports/super/hyper car segment that are setting Porsche above every other mainstream (non-niche) manufacturer. The reception of the 918, GT3, GT4, and GT3RS have put Porsche at a new high. They are overachieving on an entirely new level right now.
Well-said. The last 7 years have been a Golden Era for Porsche road cars, and I do believe Porsche captured the proverbial "Lightning in a Bottle" with the 997 GT3 RS in all iterations. Or as many Americans would say: they hit the ball out of the park!
One person we can thank for the sublime shape of the cars in recent years is Grant Larson, an American in Germany. After studying design in Milwaukee, Grant moved to the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA to finish his schooling there. Porsche scooped him up and Grant moved to Germany where he met his wife and started a family. Without a team, he designed the exterior of the Porsche Boxter - the car that helped Porsche break into the more affordable market and as a result helped Porsche to stay in the business. Today Grant is the Exterior Designer for Porsche Ag, and, he's led designs for instant icons such as the Carrera GT, the 997 range (including the RS cars subject of this thread), the new Speedster & 918 Spyder, to name a few.
