I've even heard that there will be 7000 of these. Crazy, imo. They will be very cheap in a few months...
Just look how many used GT3 RS are on the market

Who precisely did you "hear" this information from?

Considering POV and motives, one can be forgiven for thinking that tomblue3 and kouwenhoven are one-and-the-same!

Haha Joe, you are funny! No motives here, other than that I am a motoring journalist and editor of a Porsche Magazine in the Netherlands and a website (Porsche nieuws, autosport, rijtesten en meer vind je op Vierenzestig) and that I am curious as to how many will be built.

I got this information from a Porsche insider and after that I found out that there is a span of over 5000 numbers between two photographed GT3 RS VIN numbers I have seen.

It could be that these numbers were not exclusively used for the GT3 RS and that they skipped numbers, but Porsche does not do that usually.

All I do is seeking wisdom here, since I am not an expert on this matter and this is what Porsche said:

"We cannot comment on that topic since we do not communicate the delivery/production numbers of specific derivatives."

    Understood.

I'm certain all the numbers from 1 to 5000 will be multiple variants of 991, but who knows what Porsche will do these days? Clearly, they have entered an new era of going back on their word.

For me, the 997 4.0 RS is the GT3 RS king, 600 made, all numbered, end of story.

They're batch built. First batch were 187xxx's. Second batch were 192xxx's. Latest build batch I've not physically seen any, but perhaps 197xxx, hard to predict with '17 cars in pipeline.
Could be lower, as the 187/192 sequence is a 2016 vin, not a 2017. So fewer non RS cars in the mix.

Ferrari stopped "numbering" cars as it made it easier to track the 101 of 80, or 410/399 Enzos built nonsense. Also, Asian and others wanted "lucky" vin or build numbers assigned.

If you think there aren't "un-numbered" Mezger RS cars out there, I'd wager you're wrong. It's just the Germans aren't overt liars about it AFAIK.

    True.

    There are six (6) pre-production 997 4.0 RS numbered 000/600.

Or shall I say Andreas Preuninger confessed to that many!

There are pics of some of them in this thread, being used as Press cars.

The production cars range from 001/600 to 600/600, both of which are imaged in this thread also, and many more in-between.

I think "production" numbered cars, pre-production cars, and non-numbered "production" cars are 3 different things. What is admitted is usually far shy of actuality. In Ferrari's case, they truly lie, even when confronted with actual vins on actual cars. Hysterical.

There are all kinds of "not one-offs" about. I'd expect extra orders appear, and cars get built, and most won't see mainstream scrutiny. 600 are numbered, true. But as with Enzo, it's a safe bet that a few parts got put together after they ran out of number plates.

Miserable photo of a magnificent car. On display at Porsche Centre Oakville during Saturday's Cars and Coffee.

A gorgeous 997 3.8 GT3 RS was also present, annoyingly probably the one I didn't pull the trigger on 18 months ago, when the market was easily 30% cheaper.

How incredible these must be on track. I'll have to keep telling myself "one day" .

2011 GT3 RS # 3462 finished by Porsche Ag in Paint-to-Sample Meissen Blue (Z54 Meissenblau).

3462 is the only Porsche Rennsport (RS) car of any variant painted by the works in the heritage color Meissen Blue.

A one-off RS in this historic Porsche livery.

The original build specification is Meissen Blue with decal delete and silver wheels, just as the car exists.

Affirming documents on file are the factory 'Fahrzeug Informationen' build sheet, the original window sticker, and the Porsche Ag Certificate of Authenticity.

    750 miles from new.

Friend bought that car new here in TX. He planned to order a 991 RS similarly, and local dealer "shifted" allocations.

God I hate Porsche dealers, they're worse than Ferrari dealers, with in bulk lesser products.

    Great car. GLWS.

When I bought the car a couple of years ago, I reached out to that Texas dealer, and they were not helpful. Fortunately, I have a friend at Porsche Ag in Germany who is.

    That is excellent!

Q: "why do you have that many Porsches?"

A: "because that's all I can fit in my garage"
