if you are goiing to shell out almost 90k for a well equiped 911s, wouldnt you just try to find an 04 gt3 for around 100k?..25 more hp , more visceral, lighter....it does have the older chassis and doesnt have the new front end treatment....so whats your choice???

gt3 is better, however much of the 997 is better, such as the interior, the exterior hips, etc. still the GT3 has a much better engine...

The GT3 has too much of a boy racer look thanks to the wing.

The 997S has too much fluff -- the LCD screen, the gazillion buttons, the chrono wart, the lobster fork wheels, etc.

Suddenly, nothing Porsche sells interests me.

(except the CGT but that's out of my league!)

I like my 1982 SC very much, thank you, although it is slow by today's standards.

Seriously, there isn't anything that Porsche makes that I like anymore;everything is too refined although a reasonably priced Boxster Coupe might interest me....

I'd take an '89 Turbo (weekend blaster) or a 993 C2 (daily driver) over anything they make today.....

check out the gt3 reviews.....it is a true sports car...lighter, 8000red line, screaming exhaust note......a throw back to the 993s but with 996tt speed and better handling

I'm bias being a 993tt owner but its got to be a gt3. With some of the issues I've read about the new car from other owners I wouldn't go the other route just yet. You have room to increase hp in the gt3 and its lighter weight is half the battle already if your tracking.

I'm not sure if a GT3 is really worth the money. Alot of potential-owners I have spoken with drove the car and were dissapointed with its power.

I'd go for the GT3. Despite the unsightly spoiler, I think that the GT3 is a better translation of Porsche's racing heritage to the road.

Hm. Hard to be too disappointed at CS performance at half the price. Don't get me wrong, I'd still take the CS even with the price differential, but I see the GT3 as definite performance bargain.

My choice would be the 997S. I test drove a demo on and off the track and I, do have to admit, that it exceeded my expectations. It's easy to accuse the 997 of being a softer, gentler new 911, but to drive one on the track and to see how much more capable it is, was a very pleasent surprise. I am sure that a 997 equipped with the sports handling package, consisiting of -20mm lower suspension and an LSD, would be, in combination with the new PCCB, a very formidable tool on track days. It fits the role of a both, an everyday car, and a track day car, perfectly.

Virtually every GT3 I've seen has both. I know you can order it without either, but it's pretty rare. At least in my neck of the woods.

just test drove a gt3 and thought it was a very good car. A friend of mine just picked up a GT2 with 3500 miles for 135k. Says it's scary fast. I still am going to pick up the gt3. You can get one with very low miles for around 100k.

I voted for the Carrera S.....my opinion after driving both cars is that the S has more bang for the buck. I work for Carousel Porsche in Minnesota and we have had good luck with both cars and I do like the GT3 a ton but I am not a fan of the jerky ride and the twitchy handling characteristics of the GT3 vs. the S. Yes I know the GT3 is more purebred and that is what it is/was designed for and I do LIKE the car quite a bit, just not for me. ;-)
