I was shocked when I saw this. Can such extensive deterioration be hidden on a GTB/GTS? The car must have been parked up at a beach. The steels have huge sections iirc.

That's a dead trap! In my line of work as a technical car inspector I see those things often. Needs some serious work to be safe again. A nice coat of paints and some filler hides those things very often. Nice on the outside but dangerous underneath.

The cost to remedy through a Ferrari specialist was only in 3 figures.

Hard to imagine that car sustained that level of rust through on such heavy chassis parts without being submerged in standing water, or parked nosed into a pile of leaves...it would practically have to have moisture against it constantly?

Untreated steel rusts badly over time. And a belly pan keeping moisture in doesnt help. Chassis members in these cars aren't very thick. There was a thread about frame stress cracks in the mondial section. Quite normal.

Guess the salts used in the northern regions to defrost roads in the winter would highly contribute to this as well.

Good example we should be paying attention to these 70s/80s cars, particularly in these regions
