Hi,does anybody know where I can obtain a heatproof material that sits in between the "sandwich" of aluminium in the boot floor of a 308 GT4?
Obviously as it sits directly over the exhaust it needs something flameproof.
The original is a kind of fibreglass looking material but im not too worried about originality, as long as it does the job.
I also noticed that it gets airborne when taken out,I decided to wear a dust mask after it started to get down me........doh! I hope its not asbestos, does anybody know?

    Gareth,
I know just the stuff you're talking about. From above, it reminds me of the metallic dash protectors you place inside your windshield on a sunny day when the car is parked. I'm not sure where to go about finding that material in sheets...

    Gareth,

Oxford, I take it that's the one in England. I know lots of suppliers for the insulating material you're looking for in the USA but. Yeah, Demon Tweeks might be a good source or any supplier of racing car parts and supplies.

I don't think it's asbestos, Gareth. It's probably rock wool. You can still get it in various forms today, ie. blocks or loose, wool form as you found in your 308 GT4.

hi gareth ... i made new heatshields for the front and rear exhaust manifolds on the 308 .... i used a similar guage aluminium sheet for the two outer surfaces, but i used one of those flameproof mats (aprox 18" square) that a plumber would use to protect a customers paintwork, for the sandwich filling .... perhaps this may help.
    cheers, d
