    Hi All

Has anyone had any experience swapping cylinders on the door locks? My old LH handle broke so I found a NOS handle with a key but would like to be able to use my old key that operates the RH side. Was hoping I can somehow swap the cylinder from my old handle to the new one but don’t want to risk damaging the new handle. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Have you thought of using a local locksmith?

Thanks yeah will likely end up doing that but thought I’d see if it was something I could manage myself.

Maybe try hitting up some Fiat X1/9 forums, they use the same handles and Fiat guys are very prone to working on their own cars. Good luck!

I haven't had to do the door ones, but I did redo the one for the trunk and it's dead easy once you remove the handle/lock assembly. You need to put the key in and turn it 30° to make sure all the sliders are aligned and the barrel pulls straight out. Before that, you will need to remove the retaining screw or pin holding the barrel in place. You can also rekey them, I found some mercedes sliders that are very similar and can work. Another solution is to simply put the key in and file away all that perturbs, but that reduces the security of the lock...
