Just a question for the GT4 fans out there. What is the fastest you've gone around the 'ring??? I don't care what car or what mods, just how fast. I'll never make a pro driver, I always loose my concentration. I did 5'47" and change with the formula one car this afternoon. It bounces all over the place on the 'ring, and there are times when I have to let off the gas. I think one of the Pescarola cars would be faster. It took me 7 laps to get that time.

    What's everybody else done???

The best I've done is a 5'13" in the 787B. I havent taken the Sauber to the 'Ring yet so that might change.

5'13" that's quick. I'll take the 787 out and give it a whirl. I have a hard time with the 'ring at high speed...bouncing all over. I think it was Phil Hill or maybe Sterling moss that called it the "green hell". I couldn't agree more.

On the other hand I'd sure like to see Spa in GT5.

The thing with the F1 car is that its so light. The same thing happens to the Toyota 7 racecar at the 'Ring. It gets bounced around so much that its hard to control.

Spa in GT5 would be awesome. I want Bathurst as well.

the f1 car is absolutely brilliant if u can deal with the 180 mph oversteer.I pulled a 5:07 a few days ago with it. I think i could probably go under 5 with a better lap.

when going round the ring, with any of the real powerfull cars, you should soften up the suspension.. I thing lower the rebound... that will keep the wheels in contact with the track.... you can also lighten up on down force...a little...that normally helps with car control...

I posted this back on page 4 ... but my best is a 5:10. I've dipped down into the 4:50s, but that was with the Formula 1 car and I considered it "cheating" so I removed the time. I'm kicking myself now for that decision.

I actually leave the downforce at full, but the real gains can be found by letting up on the spring rate, maxing out the ride height, and playing with the shock dampening. I use toe settings to change how the car turns in, and adjust midcorner attitude with the throttle and LSD.

Play with the suspension ... you can set it up to be very solid.

The thing is a missile in a straight line. But I'll play with a suspension.

I'm heading out in a few minutes with the wife, but if I get any seat time in today, I'll set the F1 back up for the 'Ring and let you know what I use ... see if you like it. Not sure if you have the wheel or not, but I don't and my settings will reflect that.

ok i have a prob with my Gt4. sometimes, when i'm in the middle of any race, there's normally the 'background' music going on. but then, sometimes, or most of the times, i would say, the music goes off. and then, either i stop the race halfway, or when the race ends, the little 'clock' thing that goes round n round b4 the menu, it's normally white in colour. but when the music goes off halfway, and when i either stop the race or fininsh the race, this little clock thing comes out red in colour, and i can't go to any menu at all, ot even my garage, etc. becos of this, the race goes w/out being saved, and all my time and effort are gone. is this the PS2 problem, or the GT4 disc problem? the PS is new by the way, just got it last xmas. i reckon the it's the disc, but anyone has any problem like this? i have borrowed a fren's disc, but i haven't tried it out yet. anyone at all?

I had problem similar to that where if I was trying to load certain tracks the dial would go red and the game would stop. I simply got another disk and havent had the problem since I got the new disc.

I have completed the game for quite awhile now.. but I am still playing it when I have time. Usually, running different cars around the ring to set fastest laps. Recently, I have been running tuned road cars to see which ones can top the times. So far, the RX7 has the best time of 6:10s with racing medium tires. However, I usually use the tsukuba circuit to set my cars up as the track includes both fast and slow corners. My tuned Ford GT is almost 2 seconds faster than the RX7 in tsukuba(47s vs. 49s).

Here comes the real problem, the FGT is quicker than the RX7 in every way, but the handling is hell! When braking at high speeds, the tail snaps easily and 9 out of 10 times its unrecoverable! Ive tried all kinds of setup, but nothing cured the problem. I am wondering if any experts here had similar problems and know a way to deal with it. Thanks!

btw I only use regular PS2 controls, and all driving aids are off.

Try softer suspension settings at the rear and adjust the braking balance with more front bias.

i've just moved into extreme events. i kicked out the clk gtr, and bought the jag 88 race car. it's an unbelieveable car. handles well at every circuit, except, the ring. the car is really really nervous around the ring, almost undrivable. it snaps out into understeer most of the corners and i'm off the track. anyone has any idea which is the ideal race car to compete in the ring? i have that bentley race car, toyota GT one as well as the Mazda race car on my mind. anyone any advice? thanx

I found the Mazda 787B to be about the best all rounder, at the ring try softer suspension settings and raise the height a little and see if that is an improvement.

Fan512BBI is right. I never really played around that much with suspension. I usually just changed the downforce and kept the "stock" racing suspension from the full customization upgrade. Bill NG and some of the others have commented on changing these settings and it has made a huge difference. I've got the game 97% completed and I never changed the settings until last week.

Just changing these settings has dropped my time at the 'ring to sub 6 min with a number of cars. I personally prefer the Toyota minolta race car.

Thanks Steve. I tried doing that also, but didnt help. Even tried the softest setting with the rear springs(6.5) and hardest with the front(18). The car still flew around. Ive decided that the FGT is totally undrivable at the ring after modifying.

did u get that car as a reward? the Fgt Lm race edition or something like that? because, that race edition handles fairly well, except that it does understeer off the track sometimes, but i think, the best car i've ever driven around the ring so far is the clk touring car. just perfect

In settings you can alter the suspension set up.
