What is the black rocker switch for to the left of the handbrake lever? The car has sat for 14 yrs before I got it so a few things do not work! Image Unavailable, Please Login
GT4 Joe, thanks that seems the likely function, something else that does not work. Not overly bothered about that though. Got most things working and took it for her first drive in 14 yrs.... taking it gentle lasted all of 5miles!! What fun, just need to find a better driving position.
Correctly called the "Thermic Window Demister switch with warning light", item #37, page I-3 of the shop manual.
That is NOT the original switch. The original switch was made by Ford and was used in the Ford Capri models of the early 1970's.
Interesting observation. Post pics or proof or it isn't so. We are looking at a euro car or later USA car. It's hard to believe Ford was involved. Are you confusing this with the early USA GT4 which had a different switch on the left side dash panel? Just sayin.
Although I'm a complete novice to this car, I did think the switch looked out of place compared to the other switches in the car, which are all 'Lucas' toggle switches.

It is clearly possible that late models (series II/III) may have used this "ford" switch, and/or as the original broke people used the "ford" switch as a cheap replacement. The Ferrari factory shop manual (image attached) clearly shows that the original switch from the factory in Series I cars had the light in parallel (like an = ) to the switch exactly as Crosshill_garage 's picture shows.
Ian, while I agree with you on the pic in the manual, I cannot find any pics on the internet showing the same switch as mine, so maybe it was only in the early cars as you say.
Quite possible a previous owner rewired the switch function. I've done this on my QV; the 3-way Aerial (antenna) switch turns on the driving/fog lights, and activates a garage door opener.
