    Hi!

I've come across a few 308 / 208 GT4s with very unusual colour combinations, and I'd like to know if this is an indication of the exterior colour having been changed.

Example 1: 208 GT4, yellow exterior, black seats with red piping and red carpets.

Example 2: 208 GT4, red exterior, beige seats with beige cloth inserts and blue carpets

    Were those combinations really possible?

    Cheers

It depends on if the carpets are original or not.
Example 1: Black seats with red piping are not original for sure.
Example 2: Sounds like an exterior color in a shade of blue, changed into resale red.

One of the problems with Ferrari giving so much freedom with color and material choices are some really awful combinations were built.
I have seen factory interiors with black leather and red piping. In some countries red carpeting is popular and all too often mixed with other choices to create odd interiors.
Exterior colors are often later changed, often to red without consideration of the interior.

I have a really terrible time envisioning what something will look like so tend to stick to standard combinations. Too many are similarly afflicted and do not exercise my same level of caution.

    Thanks guys!

Am I right in interpreting that contrasting piping wasn't available in the GT4?

I do very much think the two cars in question were resprayed though! The seller of the yellow car states that the car is Giallo Dino (which in my opinion is a sort of beige / cream), but the actual colour looks a lot like Giallo Fly.

Let me know the VIN of both cars and I can tell you the original color combo.
By the way, Giallo Dino would be extremely rare as well as nice.

My 1975 308GT4 original (and still in place) has Black seats and red piping and red carpets. I love the combination. BTW the exterior is Rosso Rubio.

I remember reading a comment that Chenitti made not long ago. It was the mid 70's and he had a GT4 in inventory that I think was brown with lime green carpet and he was asking himself, "has it really come to this?"

I have the original color information on my website for all 208/308 GT4s, take a look here:

    https://308gt4.com/chassis/

For the record, contrasting piping was available on GT4s. I'm not sure where the rumor it wasn't got started, but a lot of people seem to think that's the case. I know of several GT4s that have contrasting piping, and much like Mike Florio, I have a friend with the same color spec and interior and it is completely original. There doesn't seem to be factory documentation of cars that came with contrasting piping, but then again factory records aren't always perfect from that time period.

Giallo Dino is indeed a very rare on the 208 GT4, only one was ever painted that color at the factory: Chassis 11618 (and it had a blue interior). Only 14 308 GT4s were painted that color at the factory.

The link provided for the yellow one is not Giallo Dino. It's likely to have been repainted, but that particular one looks to be Giallo Fly (and there were only four 208 GT4s painted that color at the factory), and all of them had a black interior but carpet color is not noted.

I owned(1989) a 75 GT4 yellow with black leather, red piping and red carpets. I know it was original because I talked with the first owner.
