okay i have a status of that car in the OP post

its a rust bucket , it has been bogged up with body filler in large areas around the wheel arches , the filler work was done poorly , not sanded completely and then sprayed over.

you can see spatula marks in the filler and in one area under the left door sill there is a patch of filler about 6 inches x 4 inches that is cracking and come loose from the body , but the painters left it the way it was and just sprayed over it

where is the vomit icon ?

it is missing roof lining and other misc bits of interior , it has been hit in the back end at some point but not repaired properly and the underbody panel is still crumpled , the rear panel is not quite straight either , something is a tad out of alignment there , and there are cracks in the welds in the rear subframe. the electric window drives are missing or incomplete

upside is , the motor bottom end has been rebuilt , the heads have been reco'd but apart from the bottom end being completed , the rest of the motor and gearbox needs to be assembled

i think my first estimate of $ 17,000 was too kind .

my rule with buying a future " pride and joy" is if it aint right , wait it out until a better one comes along.

Good detective work there, well done. I hope the seller was aware of the above before purchase....

Thanks for the awesome post , apologies for not replying earlier but my iPad connection is temperamental at the moment.
The above post gives a perfect picture of what that car is (a future wreckers breakup car)

Absolutely, kind of sad though, one can't help thinking that the seller was perhaps not so aware of the cars issues before embarking on its resurrection...

They can be cars for the "passionista" but when it comes to money I like the switch mode brain that snaps itself in to the cold hard logic seat to avoid being someone else's victim

yeah its the same one , my mate walked away from it

i forgot something off the list he gave me

The windscreen is just resting in the frame - unfastened , because the roof is still slightly twisted after an accident and the backyard repairer didnt get it straight.

so what does it cost to get the pillars straightened up and the roof aligned so the windscreen will fit properly ?

look at the other ebay photo where you can see the windscreen isnt fitted in that shot

Something funny I found out about your old 308 GT/4, that car used to be owned by Angelo G in Melbourne, it was yellow in his possession back in the 1990s. He owned at the same time 308 GTB #19329 that would eventually come my way in 1997.

Anyway, my 308 GT/4 is better than yours, here's a pic

lol, actually, the spare headlight came from my other one. Here it is after I cut the front off so it would fit in the skip.

    ouch

dont think you will fix that by offering to kiss it better

i just read your second post after writing mine , cant help but feel tears arising at those parts being scrapped

was it made a stat write off or was it not insured ?

couldnt you have sold or given it to a wrecker out of respect for the rare earth minerals that died to make those bits ?

despite the damage to yours , it STILL looks a more attractive repair prospect than the OP black car

Nice to see the knockometer close to hand. Any chance of reading the engine number? You'd at least tidy up a bit first wouldn't you?

I went though this idiotic phase in the 1990s buying crashed cars at Auction. I bought a couple of 308 GT/4s and parted them out. Kept the engine of one and sundry suspension parts. The first was odd, a disassembled car but complete, it was a finance repo. That became a race car, only to die at Phillip Island in 1999. The engine then ended up in Robert G's Targa 308 GTB. The parts cars went the way of ebay however, insurance write offs they were initially. The worst was hit in the rear at a roundabout and pushed into a truck.

Not for love or money could I get rid of the shell however. In the end I just cut it up and put it in a skip! Sad really, but I couldn't get rid of it, even for free. One I sold to Howard P almost complete after taking out the engine and transmission for myself, it had a beautiful cream interior. That interior ended up with a nice chap named Rob who bought a GT/4 project that had suffered an interior fire, he lived on the central coast from memory.

Things got a bit out of hand when parts were piling up faster than I was selling them, I had a factory in East Melbourne which was so full of crap I started storing bits at my parents place.

I had an epiphamy when my girlfriend at the time wanted to cook some dinner (She was a ripper cook) but had difficulty preparing the ingredients because there were two cylinder heads and a crankshaft on the kitchen table. I got rid of the lot after that.

    Some pics:

The best GT/4 I had lol

old workshop in East Melbourne circa 1998, the day I moved in, was never that empty until I left!

even then, time wasters used to come over.

They were fun times for sure.
