Does anyone have a photo of the profile of the windshield trim for the 308 gt4? I would like to take the trim pieces off in advance of sanding and a repaint, but I would feel better if I could show the glass guy an image of what he is going to take off. Is the trim piece just glued in place or is it attached with clips? Any tricks to getting the trim piece off without damage?
Don't know if the trim for the gt4 is the same as the 308, but they're more than likely the same. The trim profile is basically an 'L' . One leg of the trim faces downward and clips into metal spring clips at various locations around the perimeter of the windshield. A cavet to this is that prior to placing the trim, the void where the downward pointing leg goes is filled with a silicone adhesive sealant and then the trim is pushed into the clips. The trim can be removed, but is easily bendable. The two challenges are first removing the sealant (windshield replacement companies have the equipment and/or chemicals to do this) and second getting the spring clips to 'release' the trim. The clips have tiny barbs which bite into the trim piece to hold it in place and some of them won't want to let go. My advice is to have a windshield replacement company remove and replace the trim. They can do it without damaging it and their cost will certainly be less than replacing the trim.
