GTB/GTS rear window

    Always wondered, why the rear side windows on a GTS have the louvers covering the whole thing but not the GTB ? Is it that a styling thing or structual ? I've never seen a GTB in person.

    My guess is it has something to do with glare, or they are purely aesthetic.

    I suspect they were used because the GTS was the more "sporting" of the 308/328 configurations, and a rear quarter window isn't very sporting in appearance.

    Photo here is of a 1953 Porsche 356 Superleicht (super lightweight) competition car with similar treatment. Not sure whether the louvres replaced the heavy glass or simply protected it during the Carrera Panamericana race.

    I think they are aesthetic, particularly when the top is down. They don't do anything for me when the top is up (I prefer the GTB), but a GTS with the top down looks good. I have not seen a de-louvered GTS with the top off to compare, but my I would suspect it wouldn't look as good without the louvers.
