I have been luking around the GT40 forums for a few months now learning a little more about one of my all time favouites. The rep GT40 scene really has come on in leaps in the last few years and I am strongly considering one.
I would ideally like to build my own car but that is just not gonna happen, I could never see myself having the time over 2 years to do it and would more than likely end up with an unfinished pile of bits in my garage.
So the route is to buy either a turnkey or a used rep. In the UK the GTD seems to be the most popular. A couple of questions as follows to anyone who knows.
Is there any benefit to going with a monocoque chassis car in the context of a road car?
Does anyone here own or have any experience of the GTD or Tornado cars?

steve...yet again we are in step! i am looking seriously as well. it seems the superformance and the rcr are GREAT cars. i have seent the spf car and assembly in the flesh and am very impressed...a true race car and very, very faithfull to the original!

i sould have more info on the rcr in the next few weeks. i think the rcr seems very, very good as well but there seems to be alot more build interaction and do it yourself skills involved in making an rcr car...i personally lack the time and the skills to carry out the rcr as i would like. fran at rcr has indicated he will try to get me comfy that my understanding is not the case...i will keep you updated!

    best,

    Guys,
once you see an RCR in person you will realise that many of the build logs of customers include their personalisations...not necessary to complete the build.

Dont forget that RCR can also do more of the build for you too.

The SPF car is very well done and an easy "buy in" but the limitation of transaxle availabilty and the lack of opportunity to personalise the build to a very great extent, and also the issue of cabin room have all played a part in potential SPF customers purchasing RCR cars.

    Great cars all the same...

It is tough to compare a turn key minus to a component package....apples and oranges really.

I have looked at the RCR and its very very impressive. I joined the GT40s forum and Fran replied immediately, thanks Fran, and even put me in touch with someone who is here in Ireland who has just taken delivery of an RCR for self build. I thought I would be among the first in Ireland but this guy is only 25 mins drive from me. I am meeting him next weekend to have a look.
My question on the GTD and Tornado was because it seems easy to buy one in the UK for less than the price of a self build and there are two currently for sale that seem to be truly excellent cars. ?
