With respect to the many "daily driver" threads where the GTI has been mentioned, but also trashed because of reliability issues, here's a data point.

Just had my 1 year service (9K miles) on my 2011 4 door DSG. In this first year, no issues at all. They did a tranny software update at the service and the shifting is now MUCH smoother at lower RPMs/partial throttle openings, but retains aggressiveness at higher RPM's.

I'm enjoying this car more than any of my past daily drivers (which inc. 2 M3's, a Cayman S, and a Maser Spyder). With my car ADD, I am usually already seriously planning my next car--not with the GTI. Though I do have doubts about keeping it past the warranty period.

I am surprised to hear that you like the GTI more than a Cayman S or M3. What do you like better in the GTI as a daily?

Turbo (that I've chipped) has more low end torque. Lighter--feels more toss-able, though I'm sure the ultimate cornering limits are lower. Cloth seats (heated and have amazing grip--no sliding around). Practical (good room for 4, good cargo room). Excellent milage (up to 40 on the highway--average since I've had the car is 28.9). Cheap (meaning, on a relative scale, I don't worry as much about damage, bird droppings, etc.). Low profile (you don't get noticed like you do in a more expensive car, which is just fine with me in almost all cases). Excellent control feedback (given what it is--nothing like my Exige S, but still damn good). More fun to drive at 5/10's, though not as fun flat out. But on the street, how often can you drive flat out (or even close)?
