Hi. I've seen a few threads highly recommend titanium bolts if using GTO wheels on a GTB. I've also seen one thread mention the ability to use the original bolts even with 20mm spacers. Can someone help me understand this better? I'm coming from 20" Challenge Wheels. Do I actually need titanium bolts?

No, they just save on unsprung weight and slightly on rotational inertia. You cannot use spacers and original wheel bolts (too short, not enough thread to safely hold) unless you have a Type 2 Spacer that bolts to the hub with the original wheel bolts attaching to the spacer. Hill Engineering Type 2 spacers have hardened inserts for the wheel bolts and their Type 1 Spacers come with longer bolts.

    Attention with type 2 spacers

You have to check how much the bolts come out at the rear, so the spacers must be thicker than the bolt comes out.
At my GTO wheels the Titanium bolts came out about 21,5mm, so I was able to install 22mm spacers rear, not less

Daniel- My rear spacers are 25 mm Type 2s. Did not know anybody made any that were thinner than that.

    Hi Terry

    H&R starts Type 2 with 22mm
SCC starts Type 2 with 20mm (also an excellent German brand)

I have custom made 16mm Type 2 at the Maranello in front.
This is minimum with steel inserts.

GTO wheels at the front need no spacers, at the rear with Type 2, 22mm is minimum for the bolt length and the maximum for the tire/chassis.
20mm would be better, but then you have to shorten the bolts 2mm.
Or you go with Type 1 and longer Titanium bolts, but this is not what I like personally.

Daniel- Thanks. I threw away a set of H&R spacers because the threads were stripped. Did they start using hardened inserts in them?
